Jazz Offer Millsap Extension

I'm wondering why the Jazz leaked this info... The organization normally does a pretty good job keeping a lid on rumors and such. Is it because the Jazz want to let the fanbase know that they ATTEMPTED to sign Millsap, however, there is nothing they can do but let him explore free agency? After all, Millsap is a fan favorite and an all around great teammate that realistically has to be let go.

Also, The Jazz can know give him the Deron treatment and trade him because he "wasn't committed to the franchise after his current contract."

I Know... I know... I've got my tin foil hat working overtime in this post, so be it.

Yep. Slightly insulting imo but it's a business and Millsap should be able to see the sense in them making such an offer.

Insulting? Because the Jazz offered him the maximum?

He would be worth that much -barely- but if he signed that he would be obviously a sixth man type player for three more years. He thinks he's worth more (I don't) so he can try the market and I hope by then that Favors has eliminated any doubt about being 'the man'.

After seeing what Kris humphries got this offseason (12 Million per 2) and G. Wallace (10 million per 4) I don't blame him for thinking he's worth more. If he doesn't injure himself, someone will offer him 10+ million per season for four years or 12-14 million for a shorter contract.

Millsap will get more than that on the open market... easy. The question is, do we want to pay Millsap what he's worth on the open market? I'm guessing 12-14 million?

that's too much for an undersized PF. 9-10 per year should be the maximum, imo, i'd be even ok with 11 per year. if he wants more, than led him go or try to trade him...

What other choice do we have now but to trade him? Like many of you, I don't see how he can accept the max we can offer him. Why would he? Or can the offer be raised when Al is off the books after this year. I just don't think we can justify paying him 10-12 per. Very good player to have, but it doesn't seem to make sense for us.

Millsap's future for the Jazz should and hopefully will be a great sixth man. He could be an average starter at the PF position but would be a great above average force with the second unit coming off the bench. His size, quickness and overall athleticizm produce some concerns against the more athletic and bigger starters in the league on both ends of the floor. Around 10 per year should be the most we should be willing to spend. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big Millsap supporter, but that's the limit, imo.

However, who's going to trade anything valuable for Millsap knowing he'll be a free agent and explore his options? This isn't like Deron where they will be able to give him 30 mill more than anyone else to resign
