Jazz Offer Millsap Extension

Millsap's future for the Jazz should and hopefully will be a great sixth man. He could be an average starter at the PF position but would be a great above average force with the second unit coming off the bench. His size, quickness and overall athleticizm produce some concerns against the more athletic and bigger starters in the league on both ends of the floor. Around 10 per year should be the most we should be willing to spend. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big Millsap supporter, but that's the limit, imo.

He isn't a star PF or anything, but he is definitely a top 10 PF.

not top 10, maybe top 15 or 20 (gasol, garnett, stoudemire, nowitzki, griffin, smith, bosh, duncan, aldridge, love, randolph)

i see millsap in the next tier of players like west, ibaka, odom, nene, lee, boozer and so on. definitely one of the better pf's in the league, but to be fair, not better than top 15. you also have guys like cousins, monroe that are more of a pf. put in davis in the discussion as well. gibson, ilyasova and humphries are underrated as well.you could also argue that he is a top 20 pf which seems to be the better answer. so, he seems to be an average starter at the pf position, imo. but still a very good player.

Well, I wish I could say I was surprised but after Boozer, Deron, and a laundry list of others I'm not. Greed is killing our society and this is a perfect example. Thats a damn good offer and alot of money, especially in this economy. If he doesnt want to play basketball for millions in front of the best fans the NBA has to offer then F him. Oh, and dont get me started on the Jazz and mr cheapskate himself (ya I'm talkin to YOU Greggy boy). I mean seriously your gonna lowball our best player and expect him to want to stay? LOL this is why were the Jazz.

While you are normally a really good poster. This post in just dumb. Maybe get the info and read the thread before making these types of claims. THEY OFFERED THE MOST THEY CAN WITHIN THE RESTRICTIONS OF THE CURRENT CBA. How can it possibly be a lowball offer when they can not legally offer any more?

As for the Millsap part I have a hard time blaming him. While I think it's more than a fair deal for him. It's also a lot less than he is probably worth in free agency and for a shorter amount of time than he could get if this is how much he wants. Either the amount per year or the length of this contract will need to be more/longer. He might take 8.5-10M per year if it's for 4-5 years. But for a contract as short as 3 years he'll definitely want a lot more than that.

Aldridge
Bosh
Griffin
Love
Dirk
Gasol
Josh Smith (maybe)
Kevin Garnett (maybe)
Then who?

No defense or rebounding Amare? No defense Randolph (srsly overrated because of 1 good playoff series)?

Alright guys... here's how it is with me.

Any more than 12m a year, and we should take an offer off the table.
10m a year is negotiable, as long as some of that 10m is through bonus', like making the all-star game, playing 76+ games, all making the all NBA team, etc.

Negged for quality of post.

Also, I'm not going to put Cousins in the conversation because his stats have not translated to winning at all and are probably out of proportion, along with the lack of defensive effort. Anthony Davis is a rookie, any ranking of him is purely speculative at this point and based on future potential, not current ability.

West is the old version of Millsap, he is on the decline. Lee plays no defense. Boozer plays no defense. Odom didn't even play last year. Nene is a center. Gibson, Ilyasova, and Humphries aren't nearly as good as Millsap.

Yeah, giving him bonuses that will be impossible to meet because of his role/playing time is really fair. A bonus for 6th man of the year or exceptional per minute averages would make more sense.

in no specific order:

top tier:

gasol, duncan, garnett, nowitzki, griffin, love

second tier:

aldridge, smith, bosh, randolph, stoudemire

third tier:

nene, odom, lee, monroe and cousins (if considered pf's), millsap, boozer, west

fourth tier:

ibaka, ilyasova, humphries, gibson, davis (has to prove something yet)

to be fair: millsap is a top 15-20 pf, never ever top 10.
