Jazz player comparisons and the future.

In early April Kobe Bryant compared Gordon Hayward to Jeff Hornacek stating
"I'm very, very fond of him. He's a very-skilled, all-around player," said Kobe Bryant. "I think he's going to have a very bright future in this league. He reminds me of a more talented Jeff Hornacek. Jeff couldn't put the ball on the floor as well as (Hayward) can."

David Locke has stated many times that Derrick Favors is similar to a pre-injury Antonio McDyess
"The players that I and other NBA people most often compare Derrick Favors to are Amare Stoudamire and Antonio McDyess."

In June after the draft, Gordon Chiesa compared Alec Burks to Shandon Anderson "+3 for inflation", and David Locke made the audacious comparison to Brandon Roy.

Finally, Tyrone Corbin compared Enes Kanter to Alonzo Mourning
Corbin compared Kanter to Alonzo Mourning, and in some ways to Karl Malone, in the way he can run the floor.

Hypothetically, a team starting Devin Harris, Jeff Hornacek, Shandon Anderson, Antonio McDyess, and Alonzo Mourning, how well do you think they would do in todays league?

Before the draft I compared Burks to Jeff Malone. I didn't compare Kanter to anyone as I couldn't se enough game tape. I did however compare his work ethic to Karl Malone.

If Kanter ends up being a cross between Mourning and Malone I will pledge the alliegience to the Turkish flag. The college bball coach where i work met Kanter at the draft (he has connections with Calipari). Said he was tall.

Kanter isn't and never will be close to the defensive presence Alonzo was. I heard Corbin mention Zo when talking about Kanter - and it wasn't relative to his overall play or even his offense. He was talking about how Kanter liked to bang inside - and the comparison was to how Alonzo would run the floor and post up about 6-8 feet from the basket (and then dump in a little jump hook shot). He also mentioned Karl - as another guy who would run the floor hard and establish deep post position. In no way does that equivilate to the Jazz having a young Alonzo Mourning on their team.

Maybe Hayward can put the ball on teh floor better than Jeff, but he's nowhere near the shooter (spotup or on the move) Hornacek was either. Honestly, I think the Hayward-Hornacek comparison is mostly because they're both white players for the Jazz - because they aren't that similar in terms of size or style of play.

If we're talking ceilings then...

Hayward-Ginobili
Burks-Roy
Favors-Howard
Kanter-Dirk/Malone?

Lol, it's just impossible to compare Kanter to anyone. We haven't seen enough of him, and from what we have seen, he doesn't seem to have a perfect resemblance to any one player.

Okay lets be honest, Shandon Anderson is a terrible comparison for Alec Burks. Burks handles the ball extremely well for a SG, and i am confident he'll reach a point where he can get to the rim often. Anderson was average with his handles and so the only time he got to the rim was on a break away dunk or when Stockton was hitting him with a pass on his way to the hole.

I really like the Hayward- Ginobili Comparison... In facti could not agree more. I think Ginobili is a way better comparison than Hornicek.

Favors Reminds me a little of both KG and Amare. I don't know if i can agree with the Mcdyess Comparison though, because i never saw Dyess play before the injuries.

Kanter is a complete mystery for me. The only thing i think i can affirm about Kanter is that he loves contact and appears to run the floor well, and i guess that is where the Malone Comparison comes from. If he can shoot the ball well from 3 point land, maybe we could have a hybrid comparison of Dirk and Malone.. that would be pretty sick!!

Margo's future comparisons:

moai-statues-03-500.jpg

Kanter - Although their heads are almost identical in size, I see Kanter as being a slightly more mobile version of the giant heads on Easter Island.

Millsap - I foresee Paul as an MJ minus the battle with vitiligo with slightly fewer grammies and child molestation allegations

ludacris1.jpg

Harris - I think Devin has a great chance to not only pass Ludacris in total grammies, but I can also see him having the more distinguished acting career when it's all said and done.

Favors - They share the same body language, but I think Favors should show a little more explosiveness than we've seen from Eeyore.

Jerry.jpg

Watson - I see a lot of Jerry in Earl. Unfortunately I don't think Earl can or will ever be able to match Jerry's combination of speed/agility/elusiveness and cleveness so in the end I think Tom gets Earl.

Gordo - When all is said and done I think Gordo will be right there next to Kobe in Bill Simmon's pyramid. And before you go dismissing this claim, I think if you really look hard, and take away all his melanin, and give him a Zac Efron wig, you will see that Kobe looks exactly like Gordo.

You're trying too hard

Hayward - Ginobli
Favors - Howard
Burks - Roy
Kanter - K. Love
Rest of the team - Fill in with the other comparisons that have been mentioned a hundred times

is that better?

Ginobili--you demean Gordo. You mean a more athletic version of Bird. :)

When I watched Burks play, I didn't see Roy much... To me the best comparison is Latrell Sprewell with similar outside shooting, a straight head and smoother handle.

So far as handle, Hayward isn't comparable to Hornacek. Horny played point guard in college and some point for Phoenix. He was a very sure handed ball handler who seldom turned it over. Maybe so far as his ability to penetrate, Hayward's better than Horny, but not so far as ball handling.
