Jazz select Grayson Allen at 21

You guys heard it here 1st, the Jazz picked Allen to appeal the fan base’s “perceived” preference rather than for basketball reasons.

I mean come on man, why even bring something like that up?

Well, he's a known commodity and he fits the Utah Jazz mold to a large extent! If he can give us 20 minutes and 10 points a game, we're in business! Remember too, that Donovan makes EVERYBODY he plays with a better player on the court! I suspect Allen will get some wide open looks because of that!

This will end up being a really, really good pick.

I was a major fan of Donte D and Okogie. I could have talked myself into Brown or Huerter. At #21, those guys were gone. Nothing we could do about it without sacrificing an asset. And in my opinion, I wasnt sold on any of those guys as worth trading up for.

Grayson is ready to play now. He's a fierce competitor who can shoot the 3 and play next to Donovan. I think the open NBA game will let him shine more than the clunky, closed off college game.

I love it. Totally love it.

I understand people being wary of his reputation and his past antics, but if you've watched Duke at all you know how he has matured this season both mentally and on the basketball side. I think he's coming to the perfect organization to keep maturing and to find his place in the league. He's gonna bring shooting, competitiveness, another fearless guy at the end of the clock, and if he can improve his on-the-ball defense and use his athleticism to attack the rim and draw fouls, it's gonna be the cherry on top for the Jazz. He's got the makings to at least be an excellent 6th man, and although I expect him to be inconsistent at first, he should be able to help a bit from the start.

Sorry guys this was a bad pick. A further negative added to this is the fact we now have Donovan, who has been in a full out attempt to change the perception of this market, and then you pick Allen. Sorry guys, but a pick like this makes a lot of people who cover the league, or are in the league...sort of laugh and think “classic Utah”.
By classic Utah you mean athletic shooters who are a bit dirty? Or just white guys?

I think it’s ******** that because the jazz are located in Utah that means that they shouldn’t draft white players.

Jazz drafted players like deshawn Stevenson, Kirk Snyder, Quincy Lewis, Morris almond, trey Burke, Alec Burks, Donovan Mitchell, etc etc etc. Utah drafts black dude plenty. Sometimes they think that the best guy on the board is a white guy so they draft him(just like every other team) but because they are the Utah Jazz I guess that they are not supposed to draft white guys. That’s weak as ****

His 8’1” standing reach and 6’7.25” wingspan coupled with 0 reps on the bench concern me in that I think his switchability on d will be limited due to a lack of size and strength. We shall see though. I’ll admit I didn’t think he played weakly and think he played longer than his size.

I'll admit watching Donovan hug Grayson swayed me a little. They looked good together, and I could tell Donovan was excited to play with him, and vice versa.
Good vibes!

Now lets resign Favors, and Exum and stay healthy in 2018-19!
This is what true elite leadership looks like... and he's still just 21... This was the best part of the whole night.

He has already surpassed Hood in my books lol

and the more videos i watch, the more i read this is what im feeling. he will be a slighty more consistent version of Rodney. now i think he will have some off shooting nights, but like Hood able to give us a nice punch sometimes.

Where he passes Hood is his leadership, aggression, passion etc. Hood seemed not weak, but a tad soft.

Overall I've come way down from my hate explosion after the pick. I trust DL, and I'm going to be supportive. It's actually been nothing but positive news coming out since the pick. There is quite a bit to be excited/positive about.

He has to have tanked that standing reach to pump his vert. 8'1".

Edit: I think the Bench is just that he didn't participate, not that he put up 0 reps.

I was wondering last year if Mitchell did the same, because he measured at standing reach of 8'1" too... weird. That's like... lower than Trey Burke(8'1.5").

Are these the only likely definites for next year as of now? Exum is restricted of course so he’s here if we want him here too. If we match him, that’s 10 guys. I’m curious how we fill out the roster? What is the date by which we’d have to renounce rights to Sef, Udoh, JJ or Favors?

Still hate this pick this morning. And my beef isn’t the skill level, it’s the character issue. I don’t think it’s something you magically outgrow. For somebody to have that many dirty plays it runs deep.

I felt like the 29 other teams did better this year in the draft than the Jazz did.

Allen really impressed me in the interview. Just seemed so genuinely full of joy and came across as really likeable.
All reports I've heard are that off-the-floor he's a great kid, engaging and smart... very likable. It's on-court that he does stupid stuff in the heat of the moment...

We have until the night before FA to pick up options, submit QOs, etc. I think that's midnight next Saturday
