What's new

Jazz Sign Paul Carter, HELLO CHAMPIONSHIP!

Nope, he's been sitting at practice watching the others while he awaited his FIBA clearance. Probably a non-gauranteed contract for minimum.

I thought he was decent when he was with the Gophers. Didn't catch any UIC games last year, but I don't mind this pickup. It may not end up helping us, but it definitely won't hurt us like some other possible acquisitions (McLeod).

I've never seen him play, but I've never seen Burks or Kanter play either. I had never seen (at least that I remembered) Wesley Matthews when the Jazz invited him a couple years ago. Who knows? Maybe he can play. Or maybe he'll just be another camp invitee who gets cut.

So you're okay if he stays safe and healthy, then?

I did see Matthews in college. He was okay. He made solid, steady contributions as role player on a undersized Marquette team. He hardly stood out in the games. I don't remember who the stars of that team was. But Matthews is a lot better now a pro than he ever looked in college.

From the little I saw of Carter he has a good SF offensive skillset and size but below-average NBA athletic ability. Also he didn't seem to make any defensive plays.

Yep. Matthews was totally underwhelming as a collegiate player. I was floored by what he was able to accomplish here in Utah and since. I haven't seen Carter nearly as much as I saw Matthews at Marquette, so I'm reserving judgement.
