Jazz Vote No To Lottery Reform

Going to feel very foolish when they barely miss the playoffs and realize they could have had a much better shot at a top pick. Of course, the real lottery reform has already been done: there is ZERO chance Cleveland will get the #1 pick again.

Likely concerns with ability of small market teams to get superstars if draft becomes less reliable.

The teams that voted no is a wide mix of big market/small market and good/bad teams.

Because the current lottery system has been so kind to the Jazz? SRS this should increase the Jazz's chances of landing a superstar.

This is a big disappointment. I care about BB and this tanking mode option is a disaster to the game regardless of the applications on the Jazz.

Right or wrong, the assumption behind this all seems to be that the league will work best if small market teams have the draft as a mechanism to get stars, since they will not be at an advantage to obtain them through free agency/players forcing trades.

Equalizing the draft, according to this logic and regardless of any individual team's situation in the near term, effectively widens the gap between large and small markets.

Tanking is overstated. Clearly Philly was an offender this past season, as was GS a couple of years ago when they wanted to keep their pick. But there haven't been many other blatant cases. Yes, there's less of a reward for being really bad, but how would the new system affect a situation like Boston/Utah? You'd still want to finish with a worse record than the other team right next to you in the standings.

There has to be bad teams though and would you rather them give terrible contracts out that make them mediocre for a long time, or have the potential to become a title contender after being bad for a while.
