We keep saying Trump is a historically disliked candidate, but it goes deeper than that. He is the most polarizing figure we have ever had in American politics. He is either rabidly hated to the point where millions would likely have cheered if he had been assassinated. But on the other side he is worshipped like a true and real demigod. He has enough power and pull to win the seat once, narrowly miss it a second time, and now be heavily leading in most polls. For being so hated and reviled, he is worshipped by enough people, and pulls in the closet bigots to his side when the other cannot present a candidate those bigots are comfortable voting for. They are really only comfortable voting for an old white male. That is the sorry state of it is this election will likely hinge on the closeted white bigots' votes.
So even though we can fully acknowledge that Harris is better than both current candidates in every meaningful way, that is not what will win this election. Those closeted bigots won't look past her skin color and her gender to vote for the policies or the youth at this point. Putting her forth as the new candidate will effectively waste our one shot, like Jack Sparrow's single-shot gun. We have now one powerful chance to unseat the demon-king heading up the MAGA cult. But it won't happen if the trigger is pulled on a black female with a poor track record and not very much publicity to this point. The closeted bigots will swing to Trump and it will all be over.
So if we want to win this, we need someone other than Harris at the head of the ticket. Keep her on as VP again maybe, to cash in on what little cachet she has developed in the democratic party to this point.
I am not saying she is a bad candidate because she is black and female. She is miles better than either Trump or Biden, objectively. But voting is seldom done objectively. It is an emotional undertaking with complexities beyond the candidates' platforms. And unfortunately the block we are trying to swing have a strong contingent of closeted bigots that need to be mollified. If not, we simply hand the election to Trump.
I do think there is an outside chance Kamala could beat Trump. But that is a slim chance. Put a candidate out that is viewed as "safe" by these swing voters, meaning white male and relatively middle-aged, so neither too old nor too young, and I think it is a slam dunk.
I will take slam dunk over slim chance any day of the week when it means keeping the most evil presidential candidate we have ever had from taking the election and establishing his dictatorship. Because one thing I think is that Trump is a man of is word, at least when it comes to what is good and builds power for Trump. And he has stated he has no problem establishing a dictatorship. He can then become what he most admires in Un and Putin, and he can have what he most craves, unlimited and absolute power. We have to remember this is an existential crisis we are facing, not just another election. We need to put the right candidate out there, one who can win this thing with room to spare. And unfortunately, Kamala ain't it.
