What's new

Kyle Anderson an option for the Jazz?

He's really hard to project. Either what he does in college will work out and he will be awesome, or you'll be left wondering why you just drafted Boris Diaw with the number 8 pick.

And this is precisely why he shouldn't even be in the conversation as a top 10 pick. Top 10 is deserving of more wow athleticism, or more of a sure thing, KA is/has neither.

David Lee
Millsap
Boozer
tony Parker
Rajon Rondo
Zach randolph
Mehmet okur
Mo Williams (remember him as a Cav)
Jameer Nelsen
Danny Granger
Marc Gasol
Roy Hibbert
Deandre Jordan
Omar Asik
Nikola Pekovic
Serge Ibaka
And more...

Were all drafted late first round, or second rounders, not because scouts didn't think they had NBA talent, but because they all had some flaw to their game that didn't merit a higher draft status. They needed to prove themselves at the NBA level.

KA is slow. Way too slow for us. We are already the 4th slowest NBA team in league, and that is ine of the big reasons we suck. We are young, with athletic players, mainly our wings, who need a much faster pace.

Is KA a PG? Could he really gaurd any Speedy NBA PG? I know he has the length, but what about the speed? Is he a SF? I know he has the look, but he is yet again incredibly slow. Who is he going to gaurd succesfully?

Point is. There isn't enough for any sane GM to consider him in this years lottery. Mid first round is appropriate.

Just because he has a lot of assists does not make him a PG.

He's a point-forward, he's never going to be guarding a PG, so I don't see why that's part of the discussion at all. He'll be guarding SF's, and possibly smaller PF's…that's pretty much it.

We already have a bunch of safe players on the team, solid if unspectacular young players. This pick should be a reach, even if it busts. The sad thing is that some of the worst mistakes by this team in the draft have been reaches like that, so it is a nervous proposition.

Good post

Boris Diaw averaged 19-6-5 during the Suns near run to the finals

KA is like a longer, more talented Diaw.

as Deron Williams might say, "KA is kinda skinny fat."

He has a lot of work to do on his body.

If you look at him from last year, he has already made some major improvements.

Late to the Party and just want to add that thanks to Beanieweenie I am now dumber for having read this!

Thanks, and good nightttt!

A poster on another message board thought that KA could have a career like Hedo Turkoglu. That might not sound like much, but Hedo was a big part of the Orlando Magic's playoff run the year they made the Finals (2010). A big guy out on the floor who can handle, drive, shoot and pass is a nice option to have. I'd like to see how he measures, but if he's got combo forward size, I think he's an interesting player.

People make a big deal about athleticism, but I think it's a bit overrated when it comes to players who can really play the game.

He has already been measured.

Andrew Wiggins' comparison to Rudy Gay says all I need to know about whoever is writing the mock drafts for nbadraft.net these days. Unbelievably inaccurate comparison that I think expresses a bias on behalf of the writer.

edit: In the same mock draft Aran Smith of nbadraft.net simultaneously compared Kyle Anderson to Magic Johnson and Andrew Wiggins to Rudy Gay. If you believe that... then, well, you are Aran Smith apparently, whoever the F that is.

I can see the Rudy Gay comparison though. Rudy struggled to create his own shot effectively and doesn't have a great handle, both known for their defense in college. Similar size and both really athletic.

A lot of people have compared KA and Magic. They don't say he will be as good, but that is the player he is most comparable too.

Reporter: What do execs or scouts tell you most about your time at UCONN?

Rudy Gay: They say sometimes I was a little passive, too unselfish and stuff like that. Looking back at tapes I do kind of see myself doing that, but that’s what I’m working out for.

Reporter: What do they like about your time at UCONN?

Rudy Gay: I think the fact I filled the stat sheet, I think that’s one of the things I try to do the most with defense and scoring and steals, rebounds, stuff like that.

Reporter: Do you see yourself as a ’potential’ guy?

Rudy Gay: I think I could be a ’potential’ guy. [My trainer] always tells me the one word you want to get away from your name is potential, because that’s saying you’re not there yet. And that’s what I’m working to get.

Part of a pre-draft Rudy Gay interview. Sounds kind of Wiggins-y. Not that ridiculous of a comparison.

If we're going to compare solely based on style, then Andrew Wiggins reminds me a lot of Michael Jordan without the passing. Guys used to get the Jordan comparison all the time, but I never agreed with them. Now that I'm seeing it in Wiggins nobody else seems to notice. If you go back to Jordan's early years, the body-type, the athleticism, and the way they move with the ball is very similar.

Parker is Lebron James tbh.

I'd say Dominique Wilkins.

Anderson at any higher than 8th would be depressing, unless there are a lot of returning top prospects.
