Looking for a new team

Basically, we need a star. And I agree.
The best way to get one is to hit a homerun in the draft. The jazz have a lot of draft picks coming up in the next few drafts. Hopefully we find our star.

We also could possibly get a disgruntled star (like cousins or harden) by using some of our assets (we have a lot of draft picks and good young unique talent on cheap contracts).

I don't see us getting a non disgruntled star any other way. Other teams don't typically trade them and they are not likely to come here in free agency.

I agree about the draft. However, not only do you have to draft someone special, you have to give them an opportunity to burst onto the scene. With our lineup, the guy we draft at 12 is going to get just that, 12 minutes a game. Slow Jazz-style development might be good for a role player's career (I mean, look how many of our draft picks are still in the league contributing to playoff teams), but it's not good for making a star.

The good news is the larger stage of the post season gives players another opportunity to blow up. Biyombo, in his fifth season, has made himself a star these playoffs. If we make the playoffs next year and win a series off the dominant play of one our young guys, we could find ourselves suddenly in possession of a star.

I think that's what Jazz management was hoping for this year. Missing the playoffs really was devastating for our excitement factor.

Mct,
MANY stars have taken time to develop. Jazz had a pretty decent one named Stockton. Millsap took time. I think a slower timeline is likely more prevalent now because of the one and dones. Sure, there will always be a few instant stars. But the majority of 19 yr olds aren't as ready physically, mentally or skill-wise as the players who used to come in at 23 with four years of college basketball.

But that can create problems. You bake the cake, only to find out one or more of the key ingredients was bad from the beginning and ruined the final product.

Great post. That is one thing I didn't mention in the post you quoted (but have mentioned throughout this thread) but I agree that the jazz could have a star currently on the team.

At this point to convince anyone of that they would have to make the playoffs and achieve something story worthy. I'm not sure they can wait another season in the hopes that it plays out this way.

Ya I think it's possible that they already have a star but unlikely. I would put my money on them not having a star on the roster already.

I could see them winning 50 games next year though without a star and I really like all of our players a lot so that would be pretty cool. But if the chance to get a star comes up and they have to use some of my favorite players then I still hope they go for it.

Do "disgruntled" stars ever carry teams to championships? I think the stars who have switched teams are players who have moved to bigger markets, like Shaq, Lebron, etc. I think the BEST Utah could hope for is a player like MEmo or Boozer who wanted a bigger role and was relatively undervalued. But who would want to sign, knowing the Jazz' starting 5 is pretty much set - unless you can convince Exum or Hood to come off the bench?
I don't see any "savior" coming to town. But I still hold out hope significant improvements can be made over guys like CJ, Booker, Ingles and Mack/Neto.

No. We are getting KD. Utah is the clear destination for a championship. Believe my bros.

2) I'm quite glad we spent the year to assess the talent that we had before we spent big-money on contracts for players that might have been obsolete given the players we now have. Would we rather have Lyles on a Rookie contract or Tobias Harris on a max? I'd rather spend the Tobias Harris money on two mid-level players like Crabbe and PJ Tucker

Background: Tobias Harris signed his current contract with the Orlando Magic. He's currently on the Detroit Pistons. He was traded.

Question: With respect to the signing of Tobias Harris, which team is better off today, the Orlando Magic or the Utah Jazz?

More background: Harris was traded in the first year of his new contract, with pretty much the maximum number of dollars and years committed relative to the day he became tradable.

I look forward to your answer.

Still finished as the 9th seed. What did the Jazz finish at this season? It's relative to the season played. East was garbage and league didn't have an Elite 4 that season.

The West is pathetic this year and we couldn't make the playoffs. 48 wins is 48 wins. He won 48 games. Snyder hasn't.
