I loved watching the Lakers lose tonight but made me think of how sweet it would have been to get Hibbert in that 2008 draft. I remember him working out here and the talks of the Jazz getting him. He actually has turned out alot better than I thought.

I was actually thinking the same thing tonight, after watching the highlights from the Pacers/Lakers game. He seems to be a similar player to Jefferson. Although, I wonder if either would have developed the same way if they started their careers here. Maybe they'd be worse or maybe better? Who knows for sure? What we do know is that we do have a nice player in Jefferson. I think he's getting better in the offense. I also think he'll make even more progress during this upcoming off-season when he knows now what to expect and what this team needs from him.

Of course, if he doesn't end up working out, maybe the Jazz could one day trade for Hibbert? ;)

Nah, I say keep the faith that Jefferson will continue to get better and that this team will only continue to get better. :)

Hibbert is at least as good as Jefferson right now. But they're very different kinds of players. Hibbert is a much better help defender and passer. Hibbert is far more mobile. Offensively, they might be similar, but they look a lot different: Hibbert has his hook shot and Jefferson has his push shot, but it looks like they take them from similar places on the court. The Pacers often play Hibbert in the high post and run the offense through him (on many plays) as the primary passer. This is a significant part of the Pacers offense. I can't see Jefferson doing anything like that on a regular basis. Jefferson is, however, a better rebounder than Hibbert, and (at least on paper) much more of a banger. I believe everyone -- even those who have closely followed Hibbert's career -- is shocked that he is averaging over 9 rebounds a game this season. I never imagined he would average more than 7.5 or so. I think his previous best was about 5 rebounds a game.

That's just wrong. How many double doubles has Hibbert had? Maybe a dozen in his career? Jefferson averaged a double/double for 3 straight seasons. Hibbert has no where near the offensive game that Jefferson has - the footwork, range or variety of moves.

His defense is good; but he's also been a foul machine his first two years.

Yeah, Hibbert has gotten off to a good start; but he got off to a good start last year and then played inconsistently after the first month of the season.

I like Hibbert, I advocated drafting him. But you're way off.

Al Jefferson for 13M or Roy Hibbert for 1.6M ?

I wish we'd drafted Goran Suton instead of Wesley Matthews..........................................................................................

I think if Hibbert would have fallen another 6 spots we probably would have drafted him instead of Koufos, but we were also quite pleased that Koufos dropped as low as he did. Should have drafted Batum :) Yes, it is official Hayward is a bust after 18 games in his first season after leaving his Sophomore year.

candrew, when I wrote what I wrote, it was not based on stats -- it was based only on my own observations as a Jazz fan and as a Pacers fan, who has watched every Jazz game this season and most of the Pacers games for the past two seasons. (The Pacers are my second favorite team; I follow them closely but not compulsively...) So I think it was a fairly well-informed post. Your vehemence that I was so way off base! made me curious, so I looked up their stats for the season so far, and Hibbert is leading Jefferson in every statistical category except PPG (16.5 vs. 16.1), where the difference is negligible. But Hibbert gets his numbers in 30 minutes a game, compared to Jefferson's 36.

Jefferson:
PPG 16.5
RPG 8.6
APG 1.6
SPG 0.3
BPG 1.4
FG% 0.476
FT% 0.821
3P% 0.000
MPG 36.1

Hibbert:
PPG 16.1
RPG 9.6
APG 3.0
SPG 0.5
BPG 2.1
FG% 0.480
FT% 0.794
3P% 0.000
MPG 30.3

I didn't mean to insult Al Jefferson by saying that right now Hibbert is better. Jefferson may improve as the season goes along.

The Jazz should have drafted Tony Parker, Ginobili, Michel Redd, Al Jefferson, Kevin Martin, on and on.

Big Al's free throws and miles per gallon are way better than Hibbert's.
