Mathews signs offer sheet w/Blazers (5 yrs/34 mil)

This suggests to me that the Jazz are not going to match.

Although I said otherwise before, the more I think about it, the more I think you could be right.

To me, it would only make sense that Matthews would give the Jazz one last ultimatum, at least if he wanted to be here. They probably gave him their absolute best offer, and it didn't suit him, so he signed with Portland. If he doesn't wanna be here, the Jazz probably don't want to "force" him to be, just because they have that right.

At what point is it enough? A few years ago, the jazz gave Gira a 4 years 16 mil deal. He was happy when he signed it. Now, a one year player like Mathews finds that insulting.
Every player wants their money. Boozer certainly does. Deron certaily did. Chris Paul certainly did. Now they are all mitching and boaning about the fact that their teams wont' (can't) go out and get them some help and they want to bolt and go play for the lakers. First they want to make their money.

Every time I hear a player say "It's a business" I want to yell back "THEN STOP COMPLAINING!"

Jazz were stuck this year. There really wasn't much they could do. But Boozer, Korver, and Wes are not the first players to leave the jazz to get more money. Most of the other players went on to obscurity while the jazz kept on being successful.

Then again, if you're an agent, you can always play one side against another, that's just business. But you can't play both sides, or your rep will suffer badly, and no one will wanna do bidnizz with ya in the future.

If Portland and Matthews were merely colluding, in the hope that the Jazz would match, there had to be a gentlemen's agreement between them that Matthews would not foil all their efforts by going to the Jazz and offering to take less after Portland offered the max. If not, Portland wouldn't bother with the whole charade, ya know?

I think this is the scenario that played out as well. Also, the Jazz are in the position to say "come back with us for a starting role and $28.756453M over 5 years" then wait, wait, wait, and if Wes says, no i'll take the 35 at Portland, then the Jazz still have 1 week to think it through -

Often we hear a snippet of the 'negotiations' in the paper and then assume 'that's all we did.' (Like 'we'll think on it Monday' - which is other words for 'no comment' as i hear it.)

I only need one, I'm american. :) It's not my fault yall want to be like us.

really why would i wanna be a american.
to rape mexicans? be all hgh and mighty and call it "patriotism"(nazi means patriotism:P)

yeah its possible we only heard a snippet but why does this keep happening to UTAH?

3 years in a row.

i might be mistaken bt has it happened to any other team the last 3-4 years

I think that during Wes's 'rise to starting-dom' his agent was out sniffing for his worth. It was at that point - end of season and playoffs that Wes had a pretty good idea of his worth. Even the Jazzfanz board had him pegged easily at 4yr, 16M IIRC. So any sort of debate about the Jazz swooping in early with a low offer is unlikely in my opinion.

so what is your view of his max worth?
what is your view of his upside?

I recall seing Raja Bell in playoffs with Sixers and was impressed - I could see a real NBA player. I see the same in Wes. I think 5/25 was easy match for wes for me.

I think Wes is better than brewer, but he's not 2x the player (unfortunately $ and performance and not linear)
So sign brew for 2.5/yr for 2or 3 years and save your money for that elusive free agent star (is having a maximally open bank the most important thing?)
Or
Sign Wes for 7/year for 5 to lock up a pretty good player. (I think he's Raja Bell over that 5 years.)

why would people go offtopic by starting personal attacks?

i just dont get it.
