What's new

Max Draymond Green?

For context here... he isn't a free agent until two summers from now. He will be 30 and his max can start at about $34-35M per season. So about 4/$144 for him.

My vote would be no, but I expect him to decline quite a bit. I think I'd pay it for this year's version of Green if you told me we had a sharp shooter at PG or SG (Grayson Allen by then?) Backside of that deal could be quite bad if his health fades.

He's also a guy that might become more of a locker room issue as he declines (like Melo). these guys can't turn it off.

No. I don’t think he is what he is without his surrounding cast, and that will be apparent if he leaves and as he declines physically. However, the thought is certainly interesting. If we had him on the duration of his current contract, then that may change the calculus. I don’t know if Beverley can play any D post injury, but this would be fun:

Beverley
Mitchell
Ingles
Draymond
Gobert

If he wasn't playing for the Golden State Warriors with Curry and Klay and Iggy, and now Durant, etc., we would have never known who he was. Except for his antics which would have gotten him attention.

He is a good all around player, but I don't want his headache here especially for a max contract.

But he always plays smart on the court. He's an *******, but he is an amazing defender and smart offensive player.

Gobert+Draymond would be a terror on defense and Draymond could be the 2nd string center and the defense would still dominate.

Also, given Green's personality I doubt he would choose to go to Utah. My bet would be the Clippers or Lakers if he is forced out of Golden State, and I think they would both offer him.

I'd rather bring back the Junkyard Dog for a lot less years and a lot less money. Him and Crowder would wreak havoc on opposing teams on defense.

I agree; probably some West Coast team to try to stick it to GS if they let him go. I feel for the team who signs him to a long max deal. He is not a max quality player in many other scenarios. GS has been perfect for him.

He's one of the best 3 defenders in the NBA. He is worth the max. I just don't know if he is worth the max for Utah.

The Lakers would be contenders if they got Draymond. Draymond alone probably makes them a top 10 defense.

I agree... I don't think he will be on the court though... He's smart and would be a second de facto point guard. He also uses his brain and wingspan more than his athleticism on defense. I worry he might not be able to play enough to justify that salary.

If he was a better shooter and you can guarantee me he only misses 10 games a year over the contract I'd be in. I think the decline hurts him when he is on the court a bit and that he won't be available.

It's not just the years... its the miles... lots of long playoff runs... always doing the dirty work. Plays with a lot of energy. I think the likelihood that he lives up to that type of deal is low.

Was the last 4 years of Iggy worth the max? They are very similar imo. Iggy takes great care of himself physically and has missed good chunks of games while playing reduced minutes (low workload).

My vote was no... I can see why someone would say yes though. It just isn't a no-brainer.

I also think there may be diminishing returns on doubling down on defense for us.
