It's hard to really tell outside of the eye-test considering the lack of inter-league competition. When was the last time an MLS side was put against a La Liga 2 team? And even if they did it would just be a pre-season friendly or something like that. All we know is we're somewhat on par with Liga MX but fall short frequently in the Concacaf champs league final.

A decent indicator is player movements, young talented players generally leave the MLS for European leagues, older European players go to the MLS for a payday. I'm surprised its on a level with Liga MX cause most of Mexico's best players at the moment aren't heading to Europe, mind you almost all of the USAs best players are playing overseas at the moment.
