Don Denkinger, Dick Bavetta, and Ed Hochuli all think that was the worst call ever.

At least Joyce owned up to it and addressed the media. Stern would have had him sheltered and would have fined anyone who criticized the call.

This is a great post. At least he manned up and admitted his mistake, he is human. Baseball could fix this by just calling it a bad call and giving him the perfect game. They change the stats quite often after the fact anyway, what's the difference?

It wasn't a bad play. The 1st baseman yes should have let that ball go to the second baseman but I can see where he may have thought it would be a base hit. Even though he took that grounder, it was still a great play. Turned, planted and had to throw a perfect ball to a pitcher who is moving. That's a very hard play in baseball.

Yeah, but there was no need to make it a difficult play and it ended up costing the pitcher the perfect game. It was a bad play by the first baseman.

As far as I know, they change hits to errors and vice-versa; this is different.

A little bit. But it was the last play of the game if called correctly and did not change the outcome. Change it to an out instead of a hit and nothing else changes.
