NBA Summer League Wild Overreaction Thread

Bona might be the best Summer League center playing. He might not necessarily be the best center in summer league, but he is the best center FOR summer League by a mile.

Brice and Clayton are both plus-shooters. They can space the floor out a few feet past the 3pt line. So can Lauri. Hendricks might be able to as well. The Jazz can really space the floor if they want to.

The Jazz had Cody trying to guard Broome and Bona. It didn't work. He needs to guard on the perimeter. He's one of our best close-out defenders.

Ace elevates well on his jumper, which, combined with his high release point and high arc, makes his shot almost unblockable. He can shoot off pindowns and curls anytime the Jazz need a look.

In terms of size/length/athleticism, Ace is similar to Brandon Miller. However, Miller was almost 2 years older entering the league.

So far based on 1 summer league game, absolutely not impressed with Bailey. Rough game all the way around. Rough looking shot too. Looks like he is just flinging it in the general direction of the basket, and every shot looks different from the previous one. Looks like every shot he takes is hurried and rushed even when he is wide open. Seriously he looks like the jr high and high school kids i used to coach when they had no one directing their shot development, form just all over the place. Hopefully he can tighten that up or he will never be an NBA-level shooter. Defense seemed a bit lackadaisical. A lot of this stuff could be nerves. First time on this particular stage, so to speak. But the shot thing is a problem imo. Even with a case of the nerves a decent shooter will still look consistent on their shot, it will usually just end up short or long or whatever, but his just looked haphazard.

I'd just like to add, **** the NBA for setting up the first 5 picks of this draft to coddle the darlings and **** over the Jazz. **** them right to hell.

I dunno. I saw mostly positive things myself. While he did throw up a couple of bad shots I put that on him not getting touches and being forced to sit in the corner all second half. You watched Philly and they ran the ball through VJ making him the main piece while Utah perched Ace up in the corner, where he just sat there while the 2nd year guys got their looks and touches.

I entirely disagree with the rough looking shot too. I think his shot looks good. That little corner jumper will be hard to defend as somebody pointed out looked Harping'esque. He gets the ball out quick and his form is great for a 6'8" guy. The problem was his ill advised shots where he chucked it a couple of times(because he had to/wanted to force something up) and the one shot where he got a rebound and tried to Malone fadeaway it instead of take it strong to the hoop or just shoot normally will be coached.

He got to the basket a few times but simply didn't finish. 7 rebounds is legit including a nice rebound to seal the game. A massive athletic block. All while he sat in a corner all second half in which even Scott Morrison admitted he has a couch needs to do better. Philly was able to let VJ play, we were too worried about 2nd year guys...

"Offensively, we can do a little bit better job probably getting him involved, we'll chip away at that. The nice thing about summer league is it doesn't really matter what the result is. It's more important that he has some things to watch on film tomorrow morning."
-Scott Morrison

Filipowski proved he was a rotation caliber NBA player last year, but now he has to prove he's good enough at shooting and defense to play PF and this is going to be... challenging.

If he is a bad defender at PF or a bad shooter, he's going to be a bench player, he needs to be good at both.
