What's new

NBA Summer League Wild Overreaction Thread

Was listening to Locke and he compared Collier's career path to Springer's. I was surprised because Locke is usually pretty positive with his outlooks.
First year for fans, and maybe for the team itself, it's all about what the guy can do. Second year (esp. if the guy got a starting job in year one), it's all about what he can't do. Came for Keyonte, now it's coming for Collier, likely to come for Filipowski. Brice may have been saved from this only because he was never close to a starter.

Kind of like the backup-QB phenomenon.

A huge part of the Sophomore slump is different expectations.

How many years have we been doing this? I have been watching Summer league games since the 90s.

Here's what I can say...

Most jazz 1st round draft picks that I have been excited about dont get more than 15 points in most summer league games. Very few are actually efficient. That isnt what I watch for.... I am looking for someone special, someone who pops on the court.

Cody Williams looked terrified. Deron had flashes. Ochai couldn't play lead creator. Tony Bradley and Uzibuike looked like giant stiffs. And so forth.

Spida was special from the get go. And Ace already pops off the court in many ways. WCJ looks super balanced as a player.

For those reasons, I am stoked about this year's class.

I would almost throw that last game out, other than the Jazz gritting it out to compete. Both teams were on their third game in 4 nights after a full week of practice. You are going to see a lot if shots land short.
