NBA Summer League Wild Overreaction Thread

Did you actually mean to say that? Just checking... again... totally asking for a friend.

Look, if you're going to bench the star for Summer League, maybe give the rest of us a heads-up? I’m trying to budget my “delusional sports fan” fund wisely, and a mystery trip to Vegas hoping he might play isn’t exactly a sound investment.

Summer League is about building chemistry and hype—not bubble-wrapping your future in case someone stubs a toe. If you're too scared to let them play, maybe just send out a PowerPoint presentation and call it a day.
I don’t think you understand what summer league is. I certainly wouldn’t recommend making a special trip to Vegas expecting to see good basketball. It’s much more like a structured scouting event than what you’re describing.

Oh, I understand Summer League just fine—it's basketball's version of a garage band concert: chaotic, overhyped, and you're mostly there for the potential of greatness… or at least a good Instagram post.

And yes, I realize it's a glorified job fair with sneakers, but if I wanted to watch structured scouting, I’d stream HR interviews and wear a polo for fun.

But if you're benching your top pick like he's made of glass, what was the point of drafting him? This isn’t a museum tour, it’s basketball—entertainment, remember? If I wanted to watch someone sit courtside in street clothes, I’d follow influencers, not prospects.

You don’t build hype by hiding the hype. Play the kid. Or at least don’t act shocked when fans start questioning if you drafted a baller or a brand deal.

Yes, I'm serious

Kon definitely struggled so much. He looked like dollar store version of Joe Ingles. lol I mean, all top duke players did below average on their first games. Maluach was okay'ish and is obsess in shooting 3s for a center (1-6). I guess he at least hit a 3 unlike Kon (0-5).

Bingo. Welcome to the new NBA, where guys are held out for two months after a grade 1 ankle sprain.

You know, just to be sure. Big investment and all that.

He is going to be very very good. It's such a hornets thing to pass on him for Kon when you want a sg that can stroke it.
I get it the hornets want to change the culture. Do that by trading what you have, not by passing on potential stars like Ace and Tre. If I was a hornets fan on draft night I’d be in the market for a new phone and tv because my phone would’ve crashed through the tv. It was absolutely the wrong pick, and I’d be saying this had Kon tore it up yesterday. The gravity of having to choose between Ace and Tre and you pick a glue guy. That’s not how you change your culture in a league where superstars are hard to get if you’re a small market team. Which is why the Jazz didn’t pass on Ace even with him presumably not wanting to go to Utah, but you still make that move because it’s the right move.

Unless it's a hammy. Those things are nasty.

Tre didn't look below average though. He was pretty great
