Neto or Mack possible trade?

The way things stand, Neto may not even suit up for a lot of games. Also, Mack is deserving of more minutes. Might the Jazz trade one of them for a draft pick? Mack might bring a first-rounder. This would solve the CJ-Withey problem. Or maybe they want four PGs as insurance against Dante getting reinjured?

Overall I'd say that Mack is a net negative in the preseason so far. That's just what my eyes tell me.

Anyone have Mack's preseason +/-?

Neither one is very good but Mack is probably more trade-able. Jazz should unload him for their favorite asset - a future second round pick.

Mack drives me nuts - every other possession he fumbles around with the ball for 7 seconds.

Jazz' O-sets will never be confused with The Spurs but the offense is unwatchable when Mack is running it.

Only way they get a highly protected first for Mack is if a team that is in "must win now" mode has major injury and is desperate without options. I'd give this a 5% chance of happening. Here in Philly, EVERYONE said there was 0% chance the Eagles get a first for Sam Bradford, then the Vikings came desperately after the Bridgewater injury.

I don't think the Jazz move him for a second. We may not have cap space to sign Hill next offseason, and a 3PG rotation of Exum/ Mack/ Neto may be part of the vision, if Exum proves that he is the man this year.

We don`t need cap space to re-sign him as we have his Bird rights, AFAIK.

Regarding a trade, I was thinking yesterday of us trading Mack to Cleveland for Mo Williams. We obviously buy out Mo immidiately. In ths process, we help Cleveland get much needed back up @ PG and should be compensated for it. Maybe a top 20 protected first rounder?

We really do have a glut of PGs-- Hill, Exum, Mack, Neto. Plus Players like Gordon and Rodney who can handle point duties.

I think the only risk you run is if Dante starts outplaying George Hill by the end of the season, and George's contract runs out. If he accepted a bench role on the team then you 100% would get rid of either Mack or Neto, but what if George just peaces out after the end of the season?

Having 2 backup PGs in that instance would be quite good, especially the contracts that Mack and Neto are on. They're both NBA calibre PGs IMO.

I really think Chris Johnson is the player you have to cut in this instance. It hurts, and he desrves to land onto another NBA team with minutes, but just think about it this way--

if Gordon gets hurt, we have Joe. If Hood gets hurt, we have Burks. Ingles can increase the minutes that he plays relative to the others. Ingles is a very ideal 5th wing.

Meanwhile, if Rudy get hurts, that basically means that we have to play Favors and Bolomboy at the 5 for long stretches. That, to me, is why you kinda have to keep Withey. He provides that length at the 5 and he's already shown being able to fill in for the team and put up some good minutes. He isn't amazing but he's quite cheap for what he offers, and he contests shots well enough.

To me, the cut has to be between CJ, Neto, and Mack. And you gotta go with the one that doesn't rock the boat too much this season, while also protecting the team the most in the long term. I just wish CJ had a three-point shot. Very clearly a smart player.

I agree with dal I think withey has to stay. I think last year he played well in place of Rudy . I'm going to ignore his performance this preseason due to his broken heart which has been well documented.

I love watching Withey iron 3 dunks in a row. He is are new Ostertag but with more passion.

I hear you, but I really don't think the emergence of Dante will shake our resolve with Hill. If anything, Dante's emergence could spell trouble for Burks, since we could likely dump him for pick(s) and segue that cap space over into a new contract for Hill. That'd be my desired outcome as long as Burks doesn't breakout in some new dimensional way this year (which I doubt will happen).

This... Hill is a combo guard who fits in with others really well. Defends his *** off too. If Exum breaks out Hill is retained in a 6th man role. Burks would be moved to clear some space.

Withey will be kept. Neto won't be cut... he's cheap for two more years and a perfect 3rd pg imo. Personality wise he fits very well. Mack should be retained until Burks comes back then he could be traded. he's big enough to play the 2 for spot minutes.

CJ is hustle and grit, but he's not a great defender... just good. Offensively he kills what we are doing. He's no spring chicken and tbh is the most replaceable. If we released him I doubt he'd be picked up. There are some roster crunches in Houston, Boston, and other places. Better players or prospects with more upside than CJ will be available.

The determination won't be based on pre-season either... Neto, Mack, and Withey all proved they can contribute on NBA teams in a more meaningful role than CJ. I like CJ but he had an opportunity last year and couldn't throw it in the ocean or string 3 or 4 dribbles together without getting in trouble.

A good point NAOS-- never thought of it as Hill vs Burks.

But what positions will Dante and Hill play? I'm assuming you'd gun for a backcourt of Dante/Hill/Hood and some energy 4th guard? I guess that's possible.

I thought a great trade would be burks, mack, withey and a future 1st for either okafor or noel and filler (probably stauskas)
