NFL Thread 12-13

Now it's coming out Modell's family has requested that Cleveland not have a moment of silence. Thank goodness, best thing that family has ever done. That would have been awful for Cleveland and the Modells.

The replacement refs are terrible. The NFL needs to get the regular refs back ASAP! They had an enormous blown call when they picked up the flag for an obvious block in the back on a GB punt return for a TD. Glad the 49ers came away with the win 30-22. Great start to the season. Next week Sunday Night Football at home against Detroit. Should be a good one.

Absolutely correct, that was one of the most blatant blocks in the back I have ever seen. BTW the 49ers defense is awesome, and they hit hard. I'm digging 'em.

Alex Smith showing why he was the #1 pick over Aaron Rogers.
The "blind squirrel" saying comes to mind. Smith played ok, but his sideline throws at the end of the half were absolutely turrible. Trying to throw for 5-7 yard gains and he missed both receivers by about 5 yards each time. Fortunately Akers bailed him out with that 63 yard FG.

49'ers gave up a couple of bad TD drives. One of them came against a quasi-prevent defense (SF only rushing 3 linemen). Why do some teams still think they can stop all-pro QB's if they give them almost unlimited time to throw the ball? It just doesn't work. Nitpicking, I know. Anytime you hold a team like GB to 22 pts, you deserve an overall "A" grade on defense. Bowman and Justin Smith are studs. J. Smith doesn't get enough credit by most casual fans because he doesn't get the stats (sacks and tackles). But he takes on 2 blockers, freeing up someone else to get the glory. Perhaps the same is true of Willis. Teams have to account for him more than Bowman and that lets Navorro get more tackles and sacks.

Replacement refs have been awful. That was a clear push on the punt return. And then I flipped over to Seattle-Arizona and the 'Hawks got an extra timeout. Fortunately, AZ stopped them on downs inside the 5.

Yeah dude let's throw out the whole game and just focus on a couple of bad passes he had in the first half. Durrr

Good game Eagles. That was down to the wire.

Watched most of this one - had to be the ugliest game I've seen in a while. Vick had 4 picks but he probably could had 6 or 7. I think Weeden has already lost his receivers - Little looked like he wanted to strangle him after a couple of throws.

Richardson looks like a monster - very rusty though. I look for him to break out around week 4 or 5.
