Non-Utah folks: how did you become a Jazz fan?

I kind of knew each NBA team and followed several ones over the years without being a fan of any. Then I started to follow the Utah Jazz closely few years ago and I liked pretty much everything about it.. fanbase, ownership, Jazzfanz, culture, players, colors/jerseys, management.. I wrote all the reasons here.

As a kid, I was a Lakers showtime fan because all you can watch on TV was the Lakers vs. Celtics. I was fortunate to have lived in the US for a year and got access
to more NBA games on TV and became a fan of the Hornets as I really liked how Dell Curry and Muggsy Bogues played. I saw a lot of similarities between Dell and Jeff Hornacek and saw how great Stockton was so I 'adopted' the Jazz as my favorite West team. Unfortunately the Hornets went downhill ever since and the Jazz were really
moving, up until the 2 Finals appearances. So now I do have a lifelong mission of rooting for the Jazz until they win the big one (and beyond).

I don't feel like giving my back story other than this pic.

I am curious though how many others have heard of this game.

I played Bull vs Blazers on SNES a lot, I remember there was one player big on the Suns I could hit half court shots with everytime, I'd adjust him up or back a little depending on how tired he was to hit it.

I'm in Texas and like our teams, remember hakeem olajuwon and such but my dad went on a business trip yearly often to Salt Lake and he brought be back this purple jazz shirt back around 1988 probably I had for a long time, then our vacation always coincided with the NBA playoffs so I have memories of watching stockon malone all over the USA at playoff time, that's the only time I got see them until I discovered league pass.

I also share a mutual friend with Joe Jesus, grew up together played against each other then they attended rival high schools. My friend played college ball and we play pick up games. He's always ribbing Joe about Utah too, says he should be in Cleveland.

I was actually a Lakers fan until I was probably 8-10 years old.

They were on TV all the tv and played a fun style of ball (showtime).

Was a huge fan of Michael cooper (always wore my socks like him when I played ball), and Byron scott.

When ruca was 8 years old he watched his first ever basketball game on TV. The Jazz vs Bulls 98 finals. Ruca liked the Jazz's colors better and so he rooted for them and hasn't stopped ever since.

We have a number of people on the forums who haven't ever visited Utah so I'm interested to hear people's conversion stories of how they ended up being fans of our perceived obscure team.

it started rather stupidly in the 90's when i was a lee lil lad.

usually me and my liltle brother would watch nba game son tv. without knowing what teams where what. we would jsut pick a team based on color.if i pick color a my brother would pick color b and we would root against each other! so it happne sit was a playoff game and i started relaizing that teams swithc colors. so i stuck to the team i chose in game 1. which was utah jazz. and since then i rooted for them
