What's new

Game Thread Nov 18, 2022 07:00PM MT: Jazz vs. Suns

Added to Calendar: 11-18-22

I don’t want to kick em while they’re down. Tough matchup for us even last year with our token getters. Pray for a miracle I guess and expect a good game!

Loss #, what 7? Loss #7 tonight. Might still be a fun game. I think the odds of us winning has to be pretty damn small. I may still bet to beat the spread, but admittedly I haven't even checked on that yet.

If we do win it puts us in a tie with Portland for the top spot in the West. It will be interesting to see if we can hover in the top 5 this season, or rather how long we can. My bet is it comes down to earth at some point, and we may be in the middle of that right now.

This season has been way more interesting and entertaining than I had expected, that is for sure.

I hope JC finds his accuracy. We cannot sit him on the bench much with Booker on the court.

We need to use our size advantage in offense and must be able to contest their shots on defense. I think they likely want to try and force us to play small ball using their speed which we dont want to do, especially against them.

I think it will be an interesting game with mismatches for both teams to exploit. If Ayton stays on Lauri, we need spread him out and have Olynyk or Kessler punish them in the paint.

I think we win this one. I think our shooting shows up again (im looking at you mike jordan) finally and the home crowd propels us to the win.

I think so too. Haven’t hit the casino since I got League Pass six or seven games in but thinking of going tonight just so I can enjoy a couple of Bloody Mary’s. Course I have to have a sports ticket to enjoy a free drink (one or two dollar tip of course) -definite $5 money line bet tonight!

I think Jazz are looking to improve internally still to see how well the current roster can perform once everyone is up to par. So I expect every game to be very competitive. The culture is off to a great start.

Once we can determine our weaknesses vs the main core of the league &vs the top tier contending teams, that is the time I would move forward with alterations to strategically buff the roster accordingly. Who knows a certain opportunity might arise and we get lucky. NBA has seen some crazy things.

A lot of these guys click, but which ones want to stay? So many variables. I would hate to have any responsibility in the matters. I’ll stick to what I can manage.

Well, myself, cy, HH and a few others have been talking **** about Vando recently so hopefully that means he goes off tonight for something like 14 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and plays good defense and does all the little hustle things he does.

If he doesn’t, that leaves the spot open to someone hungry enough to do those exact things!

I think things get too complicated when we start getting more organized basketball and forget to keep doing “smaller” hustle/effort habits that help win so many games. This is what I think our gobert/Mitchell era lacked especially with aggression.

Hard balance being a coach man. Culture helps a lot.

I need more:
- Kessler minutes. Good things happen when this guy is in the middle. Kessler should never sit whole quarters. .
- Lauri touches... and maybe a ball screen or two. He simply can't be an offensive afterthought on this team. Touches are down, usage is down, FGA's are down. I'd involve him much more in the high pick and rolls instead of Vando, like they did early on (why did they go away from it? Your guess is as good as mine).
- Fast breaks. After two days of rest, we should never walk the ball up the court. Every time we do that, it just plays right into the hands of the opposition. This is not a good half court team right now

I need less:
- Vando. For me, by far the biggest disappointment this season. He doesn't fit the starting lineup at all because he negates the spacing of Lauri and KO with his aimless and useless floating in the middle. He passes up layups (I swear it takes 6 months off my life every time he does that), wastes pick and rolls, can't/won't shoot unless he's wide wide wide open in the corner, and constantly loses his man on defense. As I wrote a while ago, Vando was fine when the rest of the team was on fire around him. But it was a mirage.
- Sexton crashing the offensive boards at 6'0'', leaving a hole in the backcourt and aiding the other team's fast break. I mean... appreciate the effort, but just get the F out of there, my man.
- Taking bad 3's after one pass. Not winning basketball. When this starts happening, I get a nasty feeling that maybe Hardy dosn't have such a great grip on this team after all.

Suns feel pretty locked in right now. This one is a real test. I'd guess a loss... next 5 games may determine how DA/JZ move going forward.
