What's new

I think it's way too soon to be lumping Ochai with NAW, THT and Butler as a "crappy guard". The kid has a lot of potential.

Rotation wise, he is lumped with those other guys. If you want to call him promising or whatever, he’s still competing with the others and not winning that competition. Not yet anyways.

My opinions:

- Lauri looks capable as a primary scorer. We should all give him some time to grow in that role, as it's very different than he has been used in the past.
- I thought Sexton looked fine. Looks like he's still getting up to game speed, but he can make plays and hit shots.
- Kessler was disappointing as a rim protector. It was surprising how little feel he seemed to have on defense for a guy with his shot blocking numbers from college. He'll get lots of opportunities to improve.
- Vanderbilt was a little disappointing as a lockdown defender, but surprisingly good as a ball handler/distributer.

I won't comment too much on the guys who got in for the last 6 minutes of the 4th quarter. They all looked bad, but it's hard to come in 2 hrs after warmup and look good. That said, I'm not sure Butler could have had a worse 6 minutes of play. For a guy fighting for his spot on the team, that wasn't encouraging.
Pretty much this. Dudes really weren't even thinking about Kessler... think he will have an adjustment to make. I didn't hate his performance but thought things were way too easy down low for the type of player he is supposed to be.

Vando is basically who I expected. Nice hustle player... solid defender but flawed.

I will add Rudy Gay looked better moving around but he is a problem until moved/cut. Pulled up for that YOLO three in the second half and I thought - I'm good if they cut him rather than waste time improving his trade value.

Which trade is worse that one or the Olynyk one?
THT.

Dude is straight garbage.

But to consider that what we got for an elite efficiency/volume scorer (Bogey) and an elite 3&D PG (Beverly) is ****ing THT, Olynyk, and ZERO draft assets... it's hard to come to terms with.

This is especially troubling since the likely at least $14 million more on the books next year (most likely coming from THT if he doesn't get his **** together [he won't]) seems to be the difference in maybe taking on a longer negative contract for draft assets or not.

But hey, at least the Jazz have a dude they can throw out there that will guarantee that any lineup is a failure. Gimme some of that

Sexton
THT
Clarkson
not Markannen
probably Kessler

crunch-time lineup.

THT by quite a bit. KO you can see the role he will have… they clearly took their time. If you want to cut him next year it costs 3M… if he’s good you can keep him. It shaved some salary which helps a bit this year.

It would have been better for us to just work a buyout with Bev… that’s how bad the THT deal was.
