What's new

Game Thread Oct 24, 2025 08:00PM MT: Utah Jazz @ Sacramento Kings

I know he did, but he didn't win any battles. If you're that massive, you're gonna pick up a ton of uncontested defensive boards by just existing and refusing to move from under the rim.

It's just weird. Nurk's #1 priority on the court is obviously conserving energy. Maybe he has hobbies where he needs it.

Nurk is physically toast, he just can't jump in general?

So my question to you: If we trade lauri and kessler and then win 60 games this season and go to the western conference finals would you be mad that we didn't tank?
I ignored that because it 100% isn’t happening no point in answering it
If that happened (which is basically impossible so it’s a silly exercise anyways) then that would mean that we have a 20-22 year old nba MVP on our team right now. I would think that is pretty satisfactory and actually prefer it to getting a top 5 pick in the next draft.
Who is the mvp? Even so we need more talent so we don’t luck into just one dominant season. I want complete dominance I want to compete for titles year in and out.

To do that we need to suck for years. Do you think OKC was bad for just two or three years?

Lmfao. You just sound kind of silly right now.

The job of massive centers is to be space eaters, not out of area rebounds. I just watched all his rebounds and many of them where him battling Sabonis for strong rebounds.

Sacramento's guard line has decades of NBA experience, not sure that being angry that a second game rookie couldn't contain them is fair.
This is the NBA. Pretty much everyone other than the Jazz is going to have years of experience.

And angry? What are you talking about?

I mean there's a whole thread with this opener: "Best rebounding PG the Jazz have had in ages". Yeah, he's looked decent on offense, has rebounded well, but on D he's a traffic cone. It's taken Keyonte two full seasons to be where he's now, which is something like "only somewhat below average". Clayton is older than Keyonte and where Keyonte was two years ago: a turnstile.

Forgot to mention in my game thoughts that Nurk (at least the Jazz version of him) is one of the most unserious players I've ever seen. I mean the dude has apparently decided that he's not going to jump whatever happens. He's just kinda reaching for rebounds as if he's glued to the floor. "FU, I'm not gonna jump." LOL

It's obvious he's not motivated, to say the least. Probably knows his time in Utah won't be long.
Or he has no jump left. That's what happens to centers with that body type, when they hit 30+.

Who is the mvp?
If we won 60 games and went to the conference finals with no lauri and no kessler?
Well your guess is as good as mine but it would probably be between Key, Brice, and Ace. If any of those 3 win the mvp this season and we are contenders then im ok with not tanking since that would mean we have The Guy and an amazing, young supporting cast. Agree to disagree.

The Jazz are probably going to have to trade Lauri to tank for real if Brice and Keyonte are willing and able to play defense this year.

Lauri for Steph Castle or Lauri for Ausar makes some sense value wise, but I don't think the Jazz even like those guys so we would need a third team AND I don't know if the Spurs or Pistons are that willing to take that big of a swing right now considering how young they are.

Outside of the Spurs and Pistons, landing spots are a little awkward for Lauri due to his salary.

The Jazz could instead pivot to try to make the play-in I guess.

I mean, Spurs might really bite unless Jazz tries to get highway robbery. This, if Lauri plays like this and Spurs look like they could contend with the addition of Lauri. How you even stop them both? OKC can swarm one, but if Spurs delivers good screens and playmaking, either the best moving off ball big in Lauri is a open pretty often... Or you leave breathing room to Wemby. Hard to shut down both. One of them gonna score 30 every night.

Another thing to consider is guys the size of Wemby are more likelier to caught a rough injury, so the next few seasons of Lauri's prime really could entice them. The salaries and Jazz asking prize are a real issue, but basketball wise, Wemby and Lauri could go down as deadliest twin Tower ever, or pretty close, by the way Wemby now looks and what everyone knows about Lauri's off ball actions.

Yep.
Wemby and Lauri together could be something special. Move Harper and or Fox into Castle role/minutes.

Nurk is undeniably one of the best rebounders in the league. Not only does he grab a lot of boards, but he’s also a very good box out guy. It’s the hidden value he provides.

I thought he hustled really well for lots of rebounds (and got lots of them, including at least two possessions he saved which aren't on the box score).
