Official 2012 Presidential Election Night Thread

They can count regular votes in real time, but it takes 11 days to count provisional votes? someone tell me what the hell that means?

Provisional voters have to prove they were eligible to cast the ballots they did. The 11 days are there to give them that chance.

Interesting note on CCN that 6 billion was spent amount all the 2012 races and what do we have to show for it?

A Dem. Pres, Dem Senate and Repub House. Just like before all that money was spent.

I am not pleased with the outcome of the election, but I'm not a sore loser and will do my tiny little part, the best I can, to move things forward.

If you didn't support Obama, this needs to be your attitude. If you supported Obama, you still need to contribute everything you can to move things forward.

We're not so different. Give it a few years, and the GOP will regain some of its form and get another Presidential seat.

We need huge reform for campaign spending. This is such a huge waste, and does little to change anything.

Yeah, so I've lost my faith in America.

What we have here is a change in society. When the constitution was originally written, everyone in the country had to pretty much stand on there own two feet or die of hunger. Most everyone had either a farm or a manufacturing thing and the ratio of employee to employer wasn't very high. Back then most every vote was equal because everyone knew how to work. Now we live in the world of giant corporations where a handful of people have tons of assets but they employ hundreds of uneducated minions, all of which have the same equal vote as their doctorate wielding bosses. This means that elections are being decided by people who don't even have a high school diploma rather then people with over eight years of college education. (Yes I realize that people back in early America didn't have an education either, but they still had a much higher work ethic than dude working the counter at Walmart)

Yes back then everyone either had a "farm" (with free slave labor) or a "manufacturing thing" with almost free child labor (working ridiculously long hours, in often dangerous conditions). What ever happened to the good old days?

Also, back then, you were allowed to fend for yourself as you saw fit. You could go hunting and fishing every day if you wanted, and bring home dinner. You could move to an uninhabited area and claim vast amounts of property as yours, for free.

Things are a lot different now.

I do find it troubling that you're questioning the work ethic of people who maintain full time employment (even work lots of OT). Just because they didn't get a job you approve of doesn't mean they're lazy or not hard workers.

By the way, PLENTY of economists disagree with you about lower taxes on the wealthy being necessary for a good economy.

Also, these educated people you speak of, you realize they are mostly voting for Obama right? The uneducated farmers and small town cowboys almost exclusively vote republican.

Buckle up for the next 4 years, should be a bumpy ride now that Obama doesn't have another election to plan for.

Obviously we should solve this problem immediately. I propose literacy tests of classic works and poll taxes posthaste.
Finally someone suggests some kind of change.

It's true that society has changed, however if this is true than why are we still using the same electoral college? I can't count how many times I've heard people say 'why vote, Utah is republican so what difference does it make?' In a world where we have instant access to the internet which spans the entire nation, why are we still relying on such an archaic system?

But that still isn't the answer. I can't change the mistakes of the past but I also can't deny that America is being passed up by other countries, our dollar is no longer on top, our morals are falling away and there is a movement of governmental dependence that will soon have us either becoming a socialist country or having another civil war. However, now that the military has smart bombs and tanks, a civil war won't even work, so the only answer we have is to either endure or vote in a system that is broken.

I need to clarify, and apologize to Walmart. The actual full time workers (of which Walmart tried to get rid of them all a few years ago) probably has the work ethic to make sound voting decisions. The ones I'm concerned about is the person who can't hold a part time job for more than a few months and relies on government support to survive when they don't have any specific disability. I'm not saying that these people should starve, that can't work in today's society. You want to hear something outrageous? How about this:

Anyone who is dependent on government support for housing and food forfeits their ability to vote.

Bam

What? Don't you folks believe the people who are voted in will continue to support the weak minded? Ok, I'll amend it; if they have a documented disability then they keep it. That's fair, nobody wants to hamper the disabled, but random chick who can't keep her legs shut and has tons of kids she can't take care of shouldn't be making electoral decisions for America. Or drunk guy who buys his beer with food stamps who knocks up these women shouldn't either.

Does anybody else have any suggestions? Or are you ok with feeding these people and paying for their houses with either your tax dollars or your employers tax dollars?

We should just make this really simple. Women seek security. Men seek adventure. (I'm generalizing but I doubt you'll object cctrackstar) It's women's suffrage that's to blame for all these government safety nets (don't believe me, look it up) so we can turn the clock back in one fell swoop by taking back women's right to vote. We could really get back to our roots if we also made all voters pledge their belief in a Christian God.

Sounds good, right?

WHY DO PEOPLE KEEP GOING BACK TO EITHER WOMENS RIGHTS OR RACISM? i HAVEN'T MENTIONED ANYTHING ABOUT EITHER OF THESE THINGS!

I've been to college. Lots of women there. I've been to work constantly without fail and there are women in the office. My work place is owned and operated by a woman and she does a fine job. There is nothing wrong with women voting, and I have at no time implied this. This is my last post on this topic, because people are not 'getting it' at all.

Regardless of the past there is no problem with women and minorities in politics or the work place. There is no problem with women or minorities voting. There is a problem with people voting to cover for their personal reluctance to live an honest life rather than voting for the betterment of the strength and stability of the nation.

I'm not saying you did, I'm offering a real solution to the problem of moral decay and liberalization of this country.

You think some citizens shouldn't be allowed to vote. I can only imagine you feel that way because you think if they couldn't the outcome of this election would have been different. Take away women's votes and Romney is our president. Boom!
