Hornacek did it the right way. He transitioned from a shooting coach, to the assistant coach, to the HC. Stockton coming in from the cold to lead this team is gonna be VERY VERY tough. Unless he has a group of very good and supportive assistants supporting him.

So Stockton criticizes the way Ty was treated and then accepts the head coaching job for the Jazz. I just don't see that happening.
 
Just because you are a great player doesn't make you a great coach. Magic failed miserably as the Laker coach. Beside the fact that John has zero coaching experience so I think he should be an assistant first before a HC.
 
Blatt just won the Euroleuge 'elite 8' series (an upset vs _Milan. Best out of five. 3-1) and moved on to the final four. With an avarage team he has it is huge achivemant.

My statement is according to my own eyes and observation and I have no doubt about it. I won't comment about Sloan's words though since I don't know what exactly he said but chances are he was talking in a comparing sense since a PG, especially one that is arguably one of the top 3 of the game history, that doesn't call plays is a ridiculous thing even to imagine.

Well, try harder then.
But there's something beyond mere longevity separating the two, and that's this: Williams loves to shout out plays on his own accord, and Sloan readily permits it; Stockton, even late in his career, didn't do that much at all, typically preferring to look back at his coach for the call.

The absolute respect Jerry Sloan and John Stockton had for each other. Stockton was an extension of Sloan on the court, with the latter calling most of the plays. John never quibbled–he did what was asked and excelled. The mutual love they had for each other was evident on the night the franchise honored him after his retirement, when Sloan teared up, saying “We thought you’d play forever, John.”
