Paul George Rumors

Would Paul George be too good for the tank?

I know his production ended up being way short of his contract, but I don't think he's cooked all the way. Looking at his splits, he did this in January:

10 games, 33mpg, 20.5pts, 47/45/94 shooting splits, 6reb, 5ast, 2 stocks

He was dealing with injuries on a new team in a new environment with Embiid out/injured almost the entire season.

If George will start next year healthy why trade him
Sixers can just take who they want at 3 and have a very good team if everyone stays healthy

They have 2 of the most injury-prone players in professional sports, no way they all stay healthy. Question is can they be healthy together at the right time, i.e. mid-season push for playoff seeding and end of season push into the playoffs.

He's 35, which in the professional athlete business, he has a lot of yesterdays and not too many tomorrows. He's got 105 million for two years on his contract and a player option for another 56 million for the third. At which point at 37, he'll likely opt in for cause I doubt his production will live up to the price tag.

Not really sure why are responding to my post with this, I didn't say anything about his contract in that post.

That's my biggest fear in any trade talk for him.

Could he make us give a 9~14 pick of a loaded draft to a Championship team (already loaded in young talent and high upside picks) that plays in our own division ?

If we ever did anything like this, it would be an appropriate solidification of mediocrity. Blow up a team under the guise of not investing anymore into what’s considered a broken product, because it would presumably devastate us for a decade in mediocrity, then end up putting yourself in that position (and worse) by making multiple moves in the name of a higher ceiling.

I think this could be a more interesting trade discussion in a year or two when there’s an actual light to the end of that contract. With that said, if we’re planning to trade off sexton, Markennen, Kessler and Collins then sure….why not, bc we will be not good for at minimum 2-4 years

Not sure fans want to wait 4 more years to compete
Jazz need to compete in 2 years

We're not exactly a franchise with a history of overpaying for anything.
That's not really the point either.

The idea of trading for Paul George is to get assets for taking on his contract. The Jazz could take on his contract because they shouldn't need much cap space while trying to be bad. However, Paul George might be just good enough to keep them from being as bad as they want to be.
