What's new

PC Gamers Unite!

If we are talking about FPS Deus Ex is the way to go. Miss the first game and currently playing the new one seems nice.

In all seriousness, try a Zowie. Best FPS mouse I have ever used. Several guys I know playing tournament Crysis use them and turned me on to them. Simple, precise, good switches, plug and play. Love it.

Thanks for the recommend. I'm currently using a Logitech G700 (on my second after a defective unit) and my son has a G500 (I think it's the 5th we've had). I like Logitech but their mouses just don't hold up, my son's mouse is cutting in and out a lot and it's time for a new one.

I use a G13 gaming Keyboard that I don't think I could live without.

The zowie is wired, which I prefer, and very durable. Someone who shall remain nameless may have thrown it across the room once or twice. Still going strong. Among me and my kids it probably logs 30 hours per week or so in game play and general computer use, much more when we have more free time. Plus for FPS I never needed all the extra buttons. This one has 2 thumb buttons on each side, and the standard wheel and 2 button setup. The wheel has good clickiness that makes it easy to switch weapons without too much effort or being so light u flip through 3 weapons back to the first. Also it has the lowest lift-off distance of any mouse I have ever used, and zero drift on lift-off. It also has no acceleration, so as fast as you move it, that is how fast it tracks. I had the G700 before as well, then I moved on to a Sensei, then I went back to the gold standard Microsoft Intellimouse, and finally settled on the Zowie. I am probably going to buy a couple more of them so I don't wear this one out and then find out they stopped making it. That grinds my gears.

Do either of you guys do the projector thing. I gotta say it is one of the best things I have ever purchased.

I'm pretty big on Civilization but I've only played single player.

I'm still using Civ IV, and have never tried to play above Noble.

A couple of months ago (August) someone here (sorry, can't remember who) recommended I try the Civ IV mod Caveman to Cosmos. I've been hooked ever since. Man, that mod is massive. I am still on my first game (on Noble) with I don't even know how many hours of game time. Nearing the end, though.

I have wondered about the G13. I have nerve damage in my left hand so it is limited what I can do with the keyboard to begin with, so I tend to do more with the mouse (my Zowie has 7 buttons and I have them all programmed for different things depending on the game)

I have become enamored of mechanical keyboards personally. I have a Ducky Shine that I love (link below), as well as a CoolerMaster Storm Quickfire Pro. My wife uses a Filco Majestouch Ninja, which she schleps to work with her as well since it has been much better on her hands since she types all day.

I'm still playing Q3 Arena on Quakelive. I don't care about fancy graphics.
Q3 is about quick decision-making under huge pressure... has brutally aggressive, fast and smooth gameplay. Could not find any games matching this game's playability yet. I'd welcome any suggestions.

Haven't played that, but honestly, that's all I want. Good multiplayer experience. you can shove the rest of it up your *** for all I care. I want a competitive experience.

For a free-to-play I have been enamored with Combat Arms for quite some time now. Good maps, decent graphics, pretty solid game engine, nice add-ons, and pay add-ons if you want, including weapons, but you can compete fully without money. And some very good players among the noobs. It has a wide enough variety that my sons and I can get on and find a fully competitive game, complete with screaming and yelling and mouse flinging, then I can log on with my daughter for some lighter action that fits her skill level better. The social aspect is pretty well-done too. Overall a pretty decent experience.

I agree about quake, one of the best, period, and I played that for the longest time. It stands the test of time.

FPSs are not lame. They are the backbone of the gaming industry and the starting point for everything we have now (think Wolfenstein/Doom/Doom 2, etc.). That said I play a lot of FPS games, looking forward to COD Ghosts. The COD titles have been some of my favorites. But mostly I play online MMP FPS games. Largely this was kicked off and popularized with Quake Arena, which was great, and currently I play a lot of Combat Arms (free to play korean FPS online, pretty decent engine, good graphics, nothing ground-breaking but playable and fun). I played Civ, and then migrated to Evony, in which I built some alliances and completely took over a few servers, until botting/scripting started ruining the game. I play some Starcraft/Diablo but those types of games never really did it for me. Neither have the GTA titles. They always seemed boring and pointless. And adding sex scenes and torture porn does little if anything to improve them.

Lately I just have almost no time so I, like GF, prefer a game I can jump in and out of quickly, kill a half hour here and there without giant time commitments, and leave alone for long stretches and come back to with nothing really changing, so not playing many persistent games (RPG/RTS etc.), because if I can't get online for a week at a time I don't want my world to be decayed to nothing when I get back to it.

I have also been trying some steam titles. Some of them are fun decently priced, fairly simple to figure out, then fun to come back to again and again. But a lot of them are derivative, can be very glitchy and boring. Kind of a crap shoot. If you go that route definitely get into the forums to try to weed out the crap.

League of Legends consumed my life for a while, but I broke the addiction. And I got a killer machine out of it as I built my comp for the frame rate and game play.

GF check out Combat Arms if you have a good internet connection and decent comp. Don't need anything extravagant but a 3 year old vid card might be taxed a little to give smooth game-play. It's fun and easy to get into.

I'm a big morp fan on the free apps, then spend money if you like 'em enough. I don't care for the fsp / quick reaction time games (obviously). Any suggestions?

I've been playing more games on my phone/tablet lately. A friend got me into Reign of Dragons fairly recently, which is a card collecting game more or less, but with a decent social component and interesting and sometimes challenging weekly events. Free to play, but you can spend if you want to, but it doesn't do much to improve your gameplay or odds of winning unless you want to drop amounts with commas on the game. Mostly I have been using it as a distraction with too much going on to get into other games.

Zombie bump

I have been using a Zowie for about 4 years now. I'm probably going to switch to a wireless soon but I have really liked the zowie. Been running mechanical keyboards as well. No longer have a G13 GKB but a Razer Orbweaver Chroma mechanical GKB.

I just bought a Samsung Odyssey G7 32" monitor. It's VERY curved (1000R), HDR600, 1ms GtG (on a VA panel!), 240Hz refresh, 1440p, and freesync and Gsync compatible.

I currently have a GTX 1070 but will be upgrading when Nvidia launches new stuff in September.

Try Rocket League btw. 5 minute games (closer to 6 minutes due to goal replays)

FWIW I am still using that same Zowie from that original post. Still going strong. I have really tapered off my gameplay though as my job has been all-consuming for a while now. Love that monitor by the way.

Cool thing, my son-in-law made me a mechanical keyboard. He is semi-pro gamer, which means he competes in invitation tournaments and last year made almost 10 grand on gaming. Anyway he has gotten really into custom keyboard culture, he has made about a dozen keyboard, and he is studying computer science and engineering and wants to design both video cards and keyboard control boards. So mine has custom switches (something in between a cherry brown and cherry clear). It is a short-format w/ 10-key that I am using at work. I love. Next step is I need custom keycaps.

I will see if i can attach a picture. i don't facebook so I don't have a good picture host I can upload to.

If anybody wants to talk the following, I’m down:
Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds
Age of Mythology
Rome: Total War
Age of Empires II

Yes, they’re all old, but they still play on Steam and provide me as much fun as I want or need.

sweet lookin keyboard! I've been thinking about getting one of the sampler things where they have all the different switches so you can try them out. I've been using cherry's. Just got an AJAZZ KA33(short) on my main setup and Corsair K63 with custom keycaps on my 2nd.

You gotta go wireless.. with the mouse... once you do you'll never go back.. There's no delay at all.. I recommend the G305, you cant beat the bang for the buck ... If your looking for a bigger(100+ grams) one the G703 is nice.. The mouse with the best scrollwheel hands-down is the G903, it's a tank of an Ambi mouse though, for gaming i'd recommend the 703.

The GPro Wireless is really good and their flagship mouse, but $150 is too much when something like the 305 is offered for $50, logitech seems to rotate sales on their mice dont pay full price, just wait a month or 2.

With the G305, if you want to get it a few grams lighter you can use a triple-a battery converter (with some lithium batteries) and you'll be set.
