Yeah, I know, I sorta thought this thread was about the game tonight. My **** up, carry on.
I heard an English professor talking about this sort of thing once and she said it wasn't so much the word itself. Dick for instance but the context the word was in.
So calling Cy a dick (which he most certainly is.) on its own is rather inoffensive. Calling Cy "a [edited]" for instance would be much worse. (possibly true, i'm not sure) Or for example something like "Cy exposed his [edited]" would also constitute a fairly offensive use of the term.
