Hello Utahns,

I know this mall has been a bit of a contentious issue, and I hear it is quite the site to behold. Please provide detailed descriptions of what you like and/or don't like as well as your opinions about how it will add or subtract to the downtown environment.

As a former downtowner, I'm genuinely interested.

I can't stand the Gateway so I have no desire to go. I have no plan to go. I will end up there one of these days because my wife will force me.

Yeah, I agree, the Gateway project was a terrible idea that was executed terribly. I fully expect some people to feel the same way about City Creek. But, I've heard they really tried to "class up" the place in some interesting ways.

The billboards all over SLC with the Calvin Klein style black & white crap.

I'm sure CCC is probably really awesome, and I've heard a lot of great things -- it's just not my cup of tea.

Like:

1. Amazing views. I got a smoothie from the food court and sat outside checking out the girls. It was enthralling being surrounded by high rise buildings. It felt like being in a larger city.
2. Girls girls girls.
3. So many ****ing people. I hope it stays this way. The atmosphere is a lot of fun with plenty of energy, specially with all the kids running around.
4. Delicious food. I went to that expensive Brazilian restaurant, Texas whatever. Worth every penny. I tried Red Iguana as well, and it was great. The smell of food is every where.
5. The movable roof is a nice touch.
6. There seemed to be a lot of movement on Main and other surrounding streets. I discovered a little Italian restaurant called Michelangelo's Kitchen. It was great.

Dislike:

1. I'm not big on shopping and I couldn't care less for all the high end clothing stores. How often do people buy clothes? It has the typical assortment of **** you see at places like The Gateway.
2. There are so many cool spots to hang out, but nothing to keep you there. This is a problem that almost every American city suffers from. No culture. Too neat. Too many restrictions.

well, that's the hope... that this place spurs on some kind of "development" of the area (which was supposed to be developed a long time ago... along with trax (then they built the gateway and ghosted main street)).

First time I went (a couple of days after it opened) there were lots of artists/entertainers around. I watched a talented mime, then moved on to the various musicians. I was struck by an amazing violinist who had quite the audience around him. He had a box for tips that had what looked like $1000+. Second time I went, there was one guy on an acoustic guitar just outside of the mall. Why? Where did all the others go? It was heartbreaking.

What makes cities like San Francisco or NY so vibrant and alive is not the amount Nordstrom per capita. It is the culture. On my first visit to City Creek, there was a guy painting portraits. Second time he was gone. On a trip to Marseilles a few years back, the market had a fraction of the people at City Creek, and yet I was overwhelmed with culture. Painters, musicians, dancers, and even political activists everywhere. It is hard to peel away. Where are the attractions to people other than middle/high class women shoppers? How can a number of clothing stores that are a dime a dozen rejuvenate the area? It seems a bit like a wasted opportunity.

I wasn't bitching, pooh-stain. She asked, so I stated my opinion. I also said later on that it is probably more awesome than most people say -- but it's just not my cup of tea. How about you go back to hiding from me and my poker skillz, bitch.
