Poker Fools Day 4-1 @ 8pm -- Poker Tournament rnd 2

I ****ing hate you, Trout. Two solid hands and you absolutely slaughtered me on both of them. I had a good time though...thanks to Gameface for having us over. No thanks to Trout for inviting La Vida Loca to join our game.

I started winning when she sat down. Besides, I'm pretty sure that Bronco has a crush on her.

Thanks again to everyone who came. No upper deckers discovered yet, so that's a plus.

The Jazz gave us a little hope early, but by the end I was glad I was plying in poker game and not really watching the game. Much easier to forget the pain.

Not sure how many people would be in for a short turn around game, but my sister and her husband will be in town soon and they both like to play. Maybe the 15th?

Archie, I'm sorry you got jacked by a dealing error. It sucks.

After the game I made sure we followed the correct procedure. Here is the rule. We did not do it exactly right.

SECTION 5 - HOLD'EM

RULES
These rules deal only with irregularities. See the previous chapter, “Button and Blind Use,” for rules on that subject.

5. If the dealer burns and turns before a betting round is complete, the card(s) may not be used, even if all subsequent players elect to fold. Nobody has an option of accepting or rejecting the card. The betting is then completed, and the error rectified in the prescribed manner for that situation.

SECTION 16 - EXPLANATIONS
4. The rules given for rectifying a holdem situation where the dealer has dealt the flop or another boardcard before all the betting action on a round are inferior, because the dealer is told to not burn a card on a redeal. Since the “no burn” rule is so common, there was no choice but to use it here. It would be better for poker if the rule were changed to always burning a card. Here are these rules (the third rule and fourth rule in “Section 5 – Holdem”).

“If the cards are flopped before the betting is complete, or if the flop contains too many cards, the boardcards are mixed with the remainder of the deck. The burncard remains on the table. After shuffling, the dealer cuts the deck and deals a new flop without burning a card.”

“If the dealer turns the fourth card on the board before the betting round is complete, the card is taken out of play for that round, even if subsequent players elect to fold. The betting is then completed. The dealer burns and turns what would have been the fifth card in the fourth card’s place. After this round of betting, the dealer reshuffles the deck, including the card that was taken out of play, but not including the burncards or discards. The dealer then cuts the deck and turns up the final card without burning a card.

The portion of this rule saying the dealer does not burn a card on the redeal is inferior. It is harder for the dealer to control the card to be dealt if a burn is required. The sentence in the rule should read, “The dealer then cuts the deck, burns a card, and turns the final card.”

The present method for handling a premature dealing on the turn is used to have what would have been the last board-card used on the turn, and not reshuffling the deck until just before the last card is dealt. This method has four-fifths of the boardcards remaining the same, albeit in a different order. It would be better to reshuffle before the turn, preserving the chance of receiving the prematurely dealt card on either of the last two cards, as opposed to cutting that chance in half. The superiority of reshuffling right away is illustrated if the prematurely dealt card makes a gutshot straight-flush for a player.

So what should have happened is we should have set all the mucked cards and burn cards aside and then burned a card (the card that would have been burned before the river was dealt) and dealt the river card in place of the turn card. Then add the exposed turn card to the deck and reshuffle (minus folded and previously burned cards). Then cut the deck, burn a card and deal the river. There would have been a chance that your jack would have been dealt on the river. As an alternative Robert's Rules suggests taking the exposed turn card and putting it back in the deck and reshuffling before dealing the turn, which would increase the chances even more that you would have gotten your jack.

I'll brush up on my poker rules knowledge.

You were supposed to screw crapratcho, not Archie.

There was some under age Levi loving on top of a car hood going on outside when we left. I'm pretty sure it involved one of the gamblers.

I kept looking at Bronco's face after every stupid comment that chick made just to see the utter disgust on his face. And yeah, the other Alex and emo chick were still outside grinding on each other when I left around 1:30 or so. Hopefully some 13 year old got a free softcore porn show from his bedroom window. I can't believe franklin went to cry in his car and passed out though...sad really.

I thought the drunk guy was hilarious. I'm glad he won it all. Gameface, thanks again. I'm glad I've met you guys. You're all awesome. Even that Franklin guy. Trout, thanks for talking me into going. Sometimes you can actually be a nice guy. Gameface don't worry about Trout screwing up. It's all good.

This comment turns my stomach.

Or maybe it was the meatballs.

Either way, I wasn't the one cuddling with her at the table.

No kidding, Trout and her were sitting pretty close and there was a lot of room at the table.

I can't believe we haven't mentioned once that franklin's buddy came to the game packin. If anyone saw the cards I had hidden in my pants we would've had an ol fashioned shootout.

Yeah, I'm not exactly sure what to make of that. I didn't notice until half-way through the night. I find it HIGHLY unusual that someone would open carry into someone else's house without asking if it was ok or even mentioning it. I'm pretty pro-gun, but to open carry to a $20 poker game where there will be some drinking going on seems like an odd thing to do. The guy was not drinking and seemed level-headed, but I still find it questionable at best. The fact that it did draw a lot of attention and he didn't want to talk about it was also odd.

In any case, new house rule is that weapons are checked at the door. Again, I'm not anti-gun in the least and the fact that he had a gun didn't make me particularly nervous, but I'd say it's a bad idea to bring a gun to a poker game. One of the reasons I prefer to play relatively low-stakes games is because I don't figure it'd be worth it to anyone to hold up the game for a hundred bucks or so.

On a side note, if the guy had a concealed carry permit he should have kept it concealed and there wouldn't have been an issue.

I use Robert's Rules of Poker as my house rules. Here's Section 1:

SECTION 1 - PROPER BEHAVIOR
CONDUCT CODE
Management will attempt to maintain a pleasant environment for all our customers and employees, but is not responsible for the conduct of any player. We have established a code of conduct, and may deny the use of our cardroom to violators. The following are not permitted:

Collusion with another player or any other form of cheating.
Verbally or physically threatening any patron or employee.
Using profanity or obscene language.
Creating a disturbance by arguing, shouting, or making excessive noise.
Throwing, tearing, bending, or crumpling cards.
Destroying or defacing property.
Using an illegal substance.
Carrying a weapon.

POKER ETIQUETTE
The following actions are improper, and grounds for warning, suspending, or barring a violator:

Deliberately acting out of turn.

Deliberately splashing chips into the pot.

Agreeing to check a hand out when a third player is all-in.

Softplaying by refusing to bet against a certain opponent whenever heads-up.

Reading a hand for another player at the showdown before it has been placed faceup on the table.

Telling anyone to turn a hand faceup at the showdown.

Revealing the contents of a live hand in a multihanded pot before the betting is complete.

Revealing the contents of a folded hand before the betting is complete. Do not divulge the contents of a hand during a deal even to someone not in the pot, so you do not leave any possibility of the information being transmitted to an active player.

Needlessly stalling the action of a game.

Deliberately discarding hands away from the muck. Cards should be released in a low line of flight, at a moderate rate of speed (not at the dealer's hands or chip-rack).

Stacking chips in a manner that interferes with dealing or viewing cards.

Making statements or taking action that could unfairly influence the course of play, whether or not the offender is involved in the pot.

Using a cell phone at the table.
