Questions about wireless routers....

Here's my situation. I recently just moved into a house. We have DSL through Qwest. The wireless Qwest modem is upstairs. My room is downstairs. My PS3 will connect to the modem via wifi but the signal is about 50% which sucks when trying to watch Netflix or playing games. I've tried repositioning the wireless modem and 50% is the best I can get.

I have a Linksis wireless router from my old place. Is there a way I can put this router in my room or does it need to be wired to the Qwest modem? I do have a phone jack in my room but not sure that is even relevant in helping. Thanks guys!

There are things that you can buy to magnify your signal greatly for about 30 bucks.

During my search I came across this. Very interesting. I wonder if it would work for me seeing that I'm in the basement. I guess it wouldn't hurt to try it seeing that it's only a pop can.
