Rating CJ's January

The big knock on CJ Miles seems to be inconsistency, so I decided to put some numbers behind it. As commented in the never ending thread, his shooting % was pretty good in January. How did he stack up on a game-to-game basis?

A common scoring measurement is standard deviation/scoring average (Shake), which is what I'll use. All numbers are from players January game logs on NBA.com.

*Rip has been benched so I used December.
**John Salmons only played 8 games in January, which could have skewed his Shake (.26592). I used December's numbers instead.
***This measurement penalizes exceptional games. Throw out 1 36 point blow-up, and Matthews moves up to .477 shake. His December Shake was an impressive .369.

Nice break down franklin. I really miss the statistical breakdownzz on JF.

I'm telling ya, KOC needs to get SJax in a Jazz uniform. Stat.

Very cool.

If you have the time, It'd be interesting to see this breakdown for other indicators (TS%, PER, Game score, etc.).

If you include starting 3s as well, where does AK fit in? If you include all wings who average 20+ minutes per game, how do AK/Raja/CJ compare to other tandems? I'd imagine the Jazz have both the least consistent and least productive wing rotation in the league, but it'd be cool to see the actual numbers.

GVC, I'm plugging this stuff into Excel number by number. It would be nice if NBA.com provided tables. If anyone knows where to get copyable tables then I'll see what I can do. Also, Shake is generally higher for those who shoot more free throws, so you can relate it to TS% that way.

I ran S-Jax numbers for the entire year. He's 7.074044807/19.14583333/0.36948221 excluding one game he scored zero and got tossed for two technicals after 4 minutes of play.

Only problem I have with CJ's offense is he slings up too many long shots that simply aren't good percentage shots. Now his defense is another story; he is just terrible, IMO. Easiest the worst defender on the Jazz now that Boozer is gone. 20-year old Hayward for Pete's sake is a better defender; I've been quite surprised at Hayward's quickness laterally! He does need more strength, and I believe he'll be working on that...
