I think it's interesting that someone with your level of education feels empowered to declare such a ubiquitous and important term as African American as "stupid." Very interesting.

again, why the **** should national boundaries determine how we refer to people? Do you realize how sloppy and blunt this practice is? There are millions of people this excludes or endows with multiple hyphens. If you don't understand why it isn't "natural" to use national boundaries, then you need to read and travel more.

It is stupid because of the way it is used. Should I start running around calling myself a German-Swedish-Welsh-American? No? Why? Because it is stupid and I have no ties to those countries, their practices, customs of culture. I am as tied to them as your random, everyday black american is to Africa. If we are labeling based on origin then it should be based on origin of the individual and not there ancestor 5 generations back.

But you already know this and want to have some fun. Please continue.

You realize that you could accurately refer to yourself as European-American instead of that national mishmash, right? You realize that you personally celebrate the institutions and model of common sense inherited from Europe, right?

You realize Africa is a continent not a country, right? And that its people had their own practices which weren't annihilated by the middle passage, right?

Just because the term is poorly used by some, it doesn't become a stupid term. If those were the standards for declaring stupidity, then all terms/words would be stupid. 100%

Nope. Because my position adds those effects to a cultural matrix that was brought from Africa. You're the one doing the erasing when you ignore that matrix and explain all black culture in economic terms.... as if all my people were merely slaves.

Sorry, Mr. NAOStalgia, you can't blame me for migration and time erasing the old culture and replacing it with the new.

Also, I'm kinda pissed that George outed you, Kevin.

If NAOS is lurking, then I'm sure he's smiling at the fact that when the new dude started dropping some knowledge, everybody thought it was him.

If that was your idea of knoweldge it might be best if you stopped talking my friend.

Shut the **** up Donnie. Youre way out of your league.

Trust me, there wont ever be a time when i let some white dude from southern utah tell me what my name and identity are. My dad is Jamaican, and my mother is Puerto Rican. I was born during a brief stay in Utah, when my mother was taking care of my grandma in West Valley. I've spent the majority of my life in Miami and Jamaica. All said, I've been exposed to many different ideological framings for identities and terms... Nobody who knows my peoples' history accepts the terms you're so brazenly determined to uphold. Its hilarious to listen to your confidence on these issues. It's been entertaining.

Wynwood. Lots of Puerto Ricans there. Many members of my mother's family live there.

Gotcha. I used to live in Pembroke Pines just before I moved to Islamorada for two years.
