He doesnt like to throw lobs to bigs, its an awkward pass for him.

Perhaps it's because he realizes the "risk" involved and would rather not create a turnover when a more conservative pass would accomplish the same thing? Some alley-oops are high percentage passes whereas others are extremely risky and should be avoided!

Except that our bigs dont handle his down low passes and its more often a turnover. Hence why he is having career highs in turnovers the last 2 year per 100 possessions and career lows in assists per 100 possessions the last 2 years.

He is starting to learn how to pass correctly to our bigs. Gobert has a huge advantage up high, not down low. Our other PGs like Exum learned that a long time ago.

Rubio isnt in the top 100 players in the NBA at assists to turnover ratio. He ranks #39 among PGs. That is not good. So it seems like his conservative passes arent working. Also Rubio tries flashy passes all the time.

I would take Conley over Rubio ONLY if we upgrade PF to something with more offensive prowess. If we just added Conley, it's not enough and thus pointless.

I agree. I don’t even think we’re better if we trade Rubio and Faves for Conley.

That leaves a big hole in the rotation.

What is it going to cost for Conley? He's terrific, but his contract is prohibitive to what the Jazz need to do to contend personnel wise.

I like the idea of him and DM in the back court, but if we don't draw 4s away from doubling/tripling in the paint we aren't going to be able to maximize Mitchell's skills and potential. Get a stretch 4, and all the doubles have to come from 1 or 5.

Conley represents 2+ years of better PG play than we are getting, but he doesn't clear the path that actually needs to be cleared. His contract restrict's the Jazz' ability to obtain the 4 that we need, and for a couple years at that.

Conley's contract is scary, but I'd much rather have him. He would be a massive upgrade talent wise.

Still, I like Rubio (when he's not trying stupid passes) and believe he fits the culture of this team extremely well (not that Conley wouldn't, just that Rubio does).

I don't know if I'd label Mike Conley as injury prone, but considering the two major injuries he's had in recent years are both to do with his left Achilles/foot I think it's fair to have concerns about his health considering the money he gets. I would be very hesitant to give up Exum in a deal for him for example since I think you'd want to keep Exum as an insurance policy and a guy who could potentially share the floor with Conley for small stretches of games vs Neto who would exclusively have to play backup to Conley unless you wanted to be undersized at the guard spots.

The nice thing about trading for Conley vs trading for another guy with injury history like Griffin or Love is that he has one less year on his deal, so it's not as big of a blow if he gets injured and doesn't live up to the contract. I also think the basketball fit for Conley in Utah is even better than Griffin or Love since he's a good defender too along with the obvious fit offensively, and I don't think he'd take away possessions from Mitchell like Griffin would.

Out of Rubio vs Conley in a vacuum I'd take Conley just because the ceiling of this team with Conley is higher than the ceiling of the team with Rubio, but Rubio + another piece with the money difference between Rubio and Conley would probably be the better option. I think my preferred option is still letting Exum/Neto take the PG minutes to let Mitchell have more time at PG with a bunch of wings and spending that money at the forward spots though.

Conley 15 point career average with 6 assists. Rubio, 11 point career ave point wise with 8 assists per game. I wouldn't call that "massive upgrade" would you???

I have dreamed about Conley on the Jazz for years now, but the cost for the upgrade is too high.
