Rising Stars Challenge - 7 PM MST - TNT

The U.S. definitely has less talent in this game.

It's too bad Jabari, Randle and those guys are injured.

Locke has mentioned a couple times that he thinks US players that only grew up playing basketball may have a tendency to have leg and ankle injuries more often. He might be onto something. I have no data to support this, but European players seem to spend less time on the DL or having knee surgery.

I am dying to see Gobert just obliterate some Team USA guard (possibly Burke haha!) that goes in for some pathetic layup thinking this game is a breeze. I mean just smack it into the Team USA bench and stare them all down. Piss them all off and make this game a slobber knocker.

Gobert if you are reading this, PLEASE don't take this game off. Be nasty and mean! 15 pts, 15 rebs, 8 blks, 3 ast and 2 steals! Come on Gobert you can do it!

The World is 3.5 point DOGS. Shocking to me. I don't normally bet on exhibition games but I can't resist this one.

Ricky Rubio is a clear exception to that theory.

He actually might have been raised more like American basketball players. I think I read somewhere that he didn't like playing soccer growing up.

Soccer was my main sport growing up and I torn my ACL playing basketball. Women soccer players have some of the highest rate of knee injuries of any sport. I think the increase in ankle and knee injuries in the NBA is simply that the game is played above the rim more than ever.

I'm not a doctor, (but I have slept at a holiday inn)... I think it is more likely correlated to the US players have an accelerated competitive environment - not the leagues they play in but the "arms race" that is high school athletics and so young kids look like grown men in the US where the int'l players are still age-appropriate skinny... How does this paradox (skinny guys are injured less) make sense? I think it is possible that the Americans are highly 'built up' via training and they are executing moves/actions that are beyond what their bodies are actually capable of doing. In other words, are their bones and ligaments as proportionally strong as their muscles? How many vats of protein powder does a int'l kid eat compared to US?
.
Finally, the Stanford football team is currently have a low % of injuries over a span of a few years correlated to a new training technique which is more about agility, stretching and cross training type activities rather than so much emphasis on strength training. Is this possibly another sample of the disproportional strength theory?

Again - not a doctor, but I am a Jazzfanz member so I've got a theory...

That's a good point. Of course, even some below-the-rim type of guys have had torn ACLs. At least Al Jefferson comes to mind.

Thanks for making this thread spy
I had no idea that the have was tonight and would have missed Rudy in his rendition of Teh Eating Of All The Souls

That's it.

I think this could be Giannis' coming out weekend. He's gone off the last couple weeks and he has clearly turned a corner. I think he may win the MVP and Slam Dunk Comp.

Rudy's shoes...

Sure, injuries happen in many different situations to many different athletes. I was speaking as a whole why injuries have increased.
