Rolls Royce

At first, I liked Royce because he has become such good buddies with Donovan. Now, I like Royce because the guy can straight up ball.

The future of this team is so incredibly exciting.

Who would you rather have on the team... Royce O'Neale or Kuzma?

I think I would take Royce right now. I like the total package I am seeing out of Royce. It really says something with Quin had Royce on the floor during crunch time in the Spurs game in the last minute.

Kuzma is a little younger and has more size but we are just starting to see Royce's potential.

And it says something of Royce that he completely shut down his man. That wasn't just a great defensive stand. It was an UNDRAFTED ROOKIE playing like an all-NBA defender.

I hope guys like O'Neale and Crowder can be re-signed in the future. TBH, I'd rather have 2-3 players like them at $10-$15M than 1 Hayward at $30M. But there will also be roles to be defined. I can see O'Neale developing into a starter. But like Hood, there may not be a starting position open for him and he'll decide or ask to move on. Or maybe both O'Neale and Crowder will both love playing for Snyder so much that they won't care about starting or coming off the bench as long as they can get ~25 mins and play for a winning team.

It's a good thing "they" isn't the same administration. I've always said KOC was so mediocre he was bad.
The GM who rebuilt the team after two superstars left, traded up to get DWill, got Memo and Boozer as FA's, and had teams consistently in the playoffs, including the WC Finals? Also recognized DWill was likely leaving as a FA and managed to get assets for him. Yep, very mediocre GM.

As for Matthews, it wasn't a KOC decision to let him leave. It was the Millers. Keeping Matthews would have cost the Jazz $9M (including luxury tax), which was an unheard of amount back then for an undrafted FA who had a good, but not spectacular season.

KOC's poor decisions: bringing in Jefferson. But that was a desperation move to keep DWill. KOC tried to trade the mercurial AK, whose contract was crippling the Jazz, but was shot down by Larry H. Hiring Corbin? Again, probably on the Millers. I think the HC job was likely promised to Ty and was out of the hands of KOC.

I may be mis-remembering but l think they changes the rules on undrafted FA's . Utah's hands might have been tied on what they can offer Matthews.
Yes, there were changes. And the Jazz' hands weren't tied on what they could have offered. That was the problem. As an undrafted player, Matthews wasn't tied to the rookie scale. So he ended up getting an offer as a free agent after his rookie season that was way more than even the #1 pick.

Let's not get carried away here...I like Royce, but you would be crazy to pass up on Kuzma if you could have him on this team. He's easily the 2nd best rookie after Donovan in this year's STRONG rookie class (Simmons...you're not really a rookie so **** off)

Tatum appears to have dropped off, but I would take him over Kuzma any day. Josh Jackson looks good too, and DSJr. I'm not at all certain Kuzma is nr 2, and certainly not easily nr 2. IMHO.

I see what you did there.
Co mvp royce and spida

I agree with this. Royce is fantastic and might prove me wrong but i would take Kuzma.

So, I suppose the followup question is: Which rookies from the 2017 draft do you take over Royce now? Obviously, they're all younger and all, but I feel there are quite a few you wouldn't trade Rocye for, even in the first round.

No doubt about this. He would easily be top 10 imo. and that might even be selling him short.

I'm not so sure about top 10. Kuzma and Donyell obviously needs to go top 10, and most of those guys looks pretty solid to me. I haven't seen Isaac play at all, Nthilinka looked good the one game I saw him, but has a long way to go. Other than that, I don't think you pick Royce over any of the other in top 10 (Fultz is too early to tell). But he definitely looks like a clear-cut 1st rounder. He _is_ 24, of course, so there's that...

Wow. KOC wasn't bad at all, was one of the better GM's during his time.

Yes. A point I've brought up a number of times.

Oh my lord. Your letting your fandom run a muck. That is some funny crap right there. Lmao

He went undrafted in 2015, so I guess another interesting question is how he would've gone in a 2015 redraft, knowing what we know now.
Looking at the 1st round, there aren't that many obviously better players.
KAT, Porzingis, Myles Turner, Devin Booker are at least obviously better. Then there are guys like Trey Lyles, Stanley Johnson, Kelly Oubre, D'Angelo Russel, etc, etc, which may have more upside, but where I'm very uncertain I'd trade.

We have no idea how good he is right now. Great to have him. Wonderful that he is on a killer contract. Hope he continues to produce. The fact that he and Donavon like each other is a real big whatever. However, the kool-aid is overflowing the banks. He may be as good as some of you think but the sample size right now is very small. Hope he keeps it up.
