What's new

Serious question: Why are people rooting for the Jazz to win this year?

Oh jeez. Don't get on your high horse here. You would rather have been Utah for the last 10 years, going to the playoffs every year, than San Antonio? Would you call San Antonio a bunch of losers? Or did they cheat? Nope. They saw the system, and they took advantage of it.

My point is this. The Jazz are at a critical time in their history. We have some outstanding talent and a couple may, MAY turn out to be special. They may not. We will not be good this year. Why not sit Jefferson and Millsap, get the young 'uns some valuable experience, teach them some important lessons, and LOSE, then draft a Jordan or Kobe or Durant or Rose and be title contenders for the next ten years.

Or we can "win the right way" and be the same old Jazz team we have been since the late eighties. First or second round exits, with a lucky run every 10 years or so. No thanks.

p.s. I bet you think Tebow is a great QB as well. Just make sure you remember what Jesus told him: "Mormonism, it's all true. Every word of it."

Not gonna go into my religous beleifs but I am not LDS nor a fan of any religion. To have values and beliefs does not make one a religous freak it makes one principled.

Your reasononing is flawed - there is no guarantee that by imntentionally losing games it will get us to the promised land. Take for example the Clippers, how many first rounders and "can't miss" players have they had over the last twenty years? How'd that work for them? The jazz are always at a critical time in their history. I beleive they will make the principled decision, they owe it to the paying spectators, the other NBA teams, all Jazz fans and their players.

P.S. I hate the Broncos and I think Tebow is a third rate QB with a hell of a marketing team/brand.

Great post Green. You will be repped as many times it will let me. Most the people on Jazzfans don't have any foresight. And they don't understand what it takes to win a championship. You need big time talent. And you only get that through high draft picks.

Most jazz fans are just a bunch of suckers. If you tell them that you are all about championships they will believe it. Even if the moves only spell a mediocre team.

Also, I am always hearing " winning bread winning" well that would be nice if we could win. But these lousy vets aren't winners. So what's going to happen is the vets are going to teach the young guys how to lose. Isn't that dangerous? All the while missing important development minutes..

I am not even sure how much bread there is to win to begin with. And I am not sure how you win at winning bread; I guess that means you win more bread than other people who win bread. And what kind of bread is it? I really like black bread from Germany, and I don't mind a nice baguette, but for me sourdough is where it's at. I hope when we win at bread winning we get some good bread and not some crappy dry week-old wonder bread knockoff.

Yes San Antonio cheated so did Boston a few years ago but it back fired on them.

By all definitions intentionally losing is cheating. You are purposely increasing your odds of winning the lottery by tossing games. This is not the intent of the lottery. What if ten or fifteen teams decided to do this? What kind of crap league would it be? I havn't even addressed the fact that is is point fixing.

Not a good response. Why can't we get lucky that we suck in a short season? I would have LOVED to have a player like LeBron for six, seven? years. That's my whole point. Let's lose this year, so we can actually GET A LEBRON.

Is there a Lebron in this draft?

Blue - maybe you can enlighten us as to how to win a championship. Drafting is the way huh? The way Boston did when they picked up Garnett and Allen? or the way the lakers did when they picked up Shaq to win three titles and then Pau to win more? Or are you talking about the way Miami picked up Shaq or up Lebron and Bosh.. Who exactly has drafted their way to a championship in the last few years?

Agree. We already draft an all-star D-Will who plays at Nets right now..

The Lakers didn't even draft Kobe.

The point of drafting is because the Jazz can't attract major stars. So they have to get them in the draft. Yes we drafted Dwill and he left. But he wouldn't have left if we had another star. That's why we need to draft as many high picks as we can. That are also close in drafting years. And also so that we have bird rights over all of them. That way we increase our odds that we can create the 2 or 3 superstar dynamic. Also if we don't get the stars paired, then we might end up losing a guy like favors. Same situation as deron's.

The window to do that is right now. Haven't you noticed that we have never been in this situation? This is a rare opportunity.

I can't see a better way to do it from the stand point of being a long time jazz fan.

My Tebow reference was a semi-joke. Did you catch the SNL skit of Tebow? That was Jesus' last words as the skit ended. Pretty funny if you ask me.

You are right, it is a gamble, and it might blow up in the Jazz's face. BUT, the Jazz have also never been in a situation like this before. They have never been in a position to have 3 Top 3 picks on their team. Do you realize that the finals teams had two top ten picks (Carr and Keefe)? This team has an opportunity to have boatloads of talent. There is a great chance that our starting five could all be top 10 picks. You think OKC is good? Wait until we have a Durant and a Howard.

Also, I am not saying the Jazz should throw games. I am saying that if the Jazz are in a tight game, and we are down two with three minutes to play, I would rather Kanter and Favors get some experience in that situation and lose, then Jefferson playing and we win.

You people are so clever and hilarious with your comments on words that are spelled wrong.

All the while you spell words wrong all the time. You do know that all your previous posts are still available to read don't you? Why don't you go critique yourselfs. You go around trying to correct people to make yourself feel better about who you are.

You aren't as smart as you think you are. You are little weak minded girly boys. How about trying to make a good point. Instead of trying to annoy people . You are acting like teenage girls.

Have you heard of auto correct? Smart phones often do what they want. But you probably don't know about that because you can't afford one.

Deos ti enev mttare fi ist sllpede rwnog. I nkwo uoy hrea wtha I ma syinag!

And on top of all that I will butcher the English language all I want. In fact I'm glad it bothers you. I hope you have nightmares about it. And maybe I might just start spelling everything wrong just to piss you off.
You are funny, man. Keep up the work.

I'm going to root for my team to win (which is how we define ourselves as fans in the first place). If they win, then kudos to them, that's why I watch in the first place. If they lose, kudos to them, they are Increasing their draft stock. I think you should always root for the win, and take a loss as a bonus. I'm in this to see my team win, in the short and the long term.

Bluesrocker, what is your opinion of Boozer?

If i repeat something it's because I haven't read the posts yet, but i will

As for the question, there are logical reasons and emotional reasons as well:

Logic: If the Jazz tank a season, than I will have more and more people tell me that they stopped paying attention to the Jazz because they suck. I get this all the time as a bus driver, people who stop going or watching because the team isn't doing well. This isn't the Lakers or the Knicks, it's a small market team that needs a consistant fan base and doesn't have a huge population to pick from.

Emotional: The Jazz need to maintain a culture of winning. If the rookies get to play without doing well or working for it, than they won't develop the work ethic it takes to really become special. I know that there are examples of this not being the case, but I believe it is better to have them aspire to be the starter because they've earned it, not because they have a higher 'ceiling'

Who is this year's Lebron, DWade, etc?

Barnes? Maybe but he's not looking as good as I thought he would this year.
T. Jones? I'm not sure he's not another PF.
P. Jones? I don't know enough about him.
Kidd-Gilchrist? I don't know enough but everyone's in love him it seems.

With the Jazz' second lottery pick (likely) they should probably grab Marshall. Although I'm still evaluating.

But yeah, Jazz will be helped in the long run by sucking this year I think. The jury's still out on Corbin. Hope he improves. But I wish Adleman was Utah's coach.

Perry Jones or Kendall. Perry can play versatile positions with his length. He needs to polish up a little more this year but he has tools to be a nice player.

So if the Jazz suck this year and GS sucks a little too (but not too much) the Jazz could end up with both Marshall AND someone like Perry Jones. If not P. Jones then another potentially good SF. I like that more than I think the Jazz will get past the first round.

I'll enjoy watching the youngens this year and I won't mind if they lose.
