Should Ingles participate in this upcoming slate of games?

Legit question.

Pregnant wife and an immune-compromised toddler. Far from insignificant to pull him away from that, and break the seal on the quarantine of their choosing.

I wouldn’t blame him for opting out.

If Ingles in on the team then he should participate. If you are going to do a job (and get paid) you should do it right. Period.
Don't get me wrong, I got no issue if Ingles decides it isn't worth it to him and his family and retires. He will always be a Jazz legend!

Also, let's be clear that Joe going to the bubble doesn't put his family at a higher risk of the virus. It is not like he is going to be coming home every night. So, I don't get the premise of the question.

I think he should... it’s up to him though... it will essentially be 6 weeks or so away from his family... he can quarantine prior to coming home... the bubble is likely safer than going in the road next year unless we have a vaccine. I view this bubble tournament as similar to the families in the armed forces that have a spouse called away for 3 or 6 months... it really sucks but he gets paid a ton for it.

If he wants to retire over it I’d be just super sad... I’d understand. If he doesn’t want to play I’m not sure he should get his salary... that’s the choice imo for guys that want to stay home. I’d consider an exception but when you think it through his family isn’t at risk with him leaving as long as he quarantines and test prior to be reunited. So it would be him just not wanting to leave his family.

it sounds as though many players are not happy with the arrangement and this thing may not end up happening if they get momentum. As I understand it it is a loss leader for the league but would allow them to help the players get to their full pay... so not sure it is about the rich owners exploiting these guys.

Kyrie is leading the charge apparently... I think these guys should think it through. It doesn’t sound fun at all but if they don’t do it the nba can to the force majeure thing and it could get ugly.

I would think being on tv would give a bigger platform on the black lives matter movement too.

If enough guys don’t want to participate I get it but they won’t get paid and it will hurt them next year too... dont get to have your cake and eat it too.

If the players decide not to go to Orlando and they cancel the season things will get really ugly. I’m talking like a hard cba negotiation where the owners dig in and either bury the players or we don’t see basketball for like 18 months when the virus is hopefully done. Some of the players are playing pickup ball and you know most are not socially distancing super hard... hopefully everyone sees what’s at stake.

If the go Force Majeure then the cba is canceled and up for negotiation. Lots of goodwill will be tossed out the window and the owners will wait the players out since next year there may not be fans. I get that the situation isn’t ideal but they need to think this through.

Whatever he feels is best for his family. To be honest, with all the things that are going on right now, basketball just feels less important each passing day (at least for me).

I believe the language so far is very clear: if you don’t play, then you don’t get paid; but that option will be on the table.

I’m legit worried that guys are gonna be like “screw this im done this season” and the owners will tear up the cba and then we lose basketball until October 2021.

Their concern is some of the staff won’t stay in the bubble but these guys are likely currently having food prepared or going to restraints and have the same flipping risks. From what I hear on the finances for this... the players have more to gain than the owners... I don’t think the risk is unreasonable... but I’m also not being super strict with social distancing right now. I’d say I’m moderate but at some point you have to move around and live your life.

A lot of the points you’ve made for returning to play could just as easily be spun as reasons not to. For example, the fact that some players are already playing full-contact pickup games, or breaking quarantine in this way or that, could be the specific reasons why a clique of players would say, “See, all these guys aren’t safe. Covid will find it’s way in, and we’ll all be exposed.”

I guess... but coming in they need to quarantine for 36 hours and pass two tests first.

Hadn’t heard that. It ain’t air-tight, but that’s pretty good.

If Irving is leading the charge against this return, then it almost makes me sure that returning is the better choice.
Jared Dudley is on Twitter kind of ranting about it. If enough guys vote this down the money implications will be catastrophic for them. They will play but to your point...

Kyrie said like a week ago that he wanted to be there to support his team even though he wasn’t playing. Like he would be coming and going as he pleased. That dude is so weird.
