What's new

so we have alec burks and alec burks LITE(dante exum)

So...what did we accomplish?

It's not fair to classify Exum as Alec Burks Lite. We really don't know what he is going to be. He could end up being better than Burks. He could end up being a bust. Time will tell. I do love that he is ultra competitive and brings a lot to the table that Trey doesn't. My guess is that they play together a lot and we figure out if that's going to work or if we should eventually trade Trey. I just hope fans are patient with him. He is not going to be a finished product on day 1. I personally believe Exum will be better than you are giving him credit for. I am guessing you want Alec to start. Down the road I prefer Exum/Burks to Burke/Burks.

Don't entertain this guy. Dante is projected to be much better than alec. We have an amazing group of guards now and I am amped to see them play together.

So...what did we accomplish?

The quitting of a fairweather fan, justification for unreasonable Burke haters to demand a trade and the right to cry about "the city of Utah".

It was a good night.

problem is not how good Dante going to be, it is that we have Hayward who cant react well to tough SFs in the opposition team. Consider the long term, Trey, Dante, Hayward perimeter is gonna be talented but will lack physicality. That is it.
Plus i was on the board to trade Burks long ago and now it seems like a must. Not fair to let that guy stay and get rusty on the bench, at least he can go out some team and contribute a bit.

To sum up, if Dante Exum not gonna be a superstar, this draft pick will not be right to the point at all.

Exum is a PG (if he's going to be great he'd better be anyway) and I'm convinced the Jazz took him to be a PG. Burks is a pure SG. Non issue. I have my issues with Exum, but he is not Burks. To put it simply, he's Trey's replacement.

With the drafting of Exum this IMO means Hayward will play the 3....... Or he is gone through a S&T or just letting him walk.

Trey and Alec are starting THIS year. There is no question about it. Exum is a HUGE project. The guy is only 19 years old next month and needs a lot more experience. I know everyone is excited about him being the 5th pick and the think he should start.........Not going to happen. He needs more experience. He could for sure over take Trey. But right now he needs to develop.

Trey - Exum
Burks - Exum

Exum will be backing up both guard positions and playing plenty of minutes to develop. They will probably sign a back up PG veteran who is there just in case Exum gets in foul trouble.

But a combination of those 3 young players rotating together??? Bright future and this year will be fun to watch these guys rotate. Very quick front court.

Frankly, I don't see Trey in our plans long-term. I think a more likely backcourt rotation would be Exum-Burks-Hayward.

This is a good post. For now, Exum will back up both guard spots. Long term, if Exum becomes a player, Trey will be loooking for a job.

Great post.

I'm looking forward to these scenarios.

I want the Jazz to succeed with the players they have on the roster. I don't dislike anyone we have.

If Exum isn't going to start (a move I can understand), then I'd rather see Patty Mills start.

If we are signing Patty Mills then we should trade Trey. Maybe a 3 team trade.....Sign and trade Hayward along with Trey to Boston. Send Rondo to a contender and we get a legit SF.

Houston??? Parsons and maybe someone else??

Trey gets to be with his lover
And Hayward gets to be with his coach. We get a legit SF in Parsons.

Mills is better now, but Burke is much further along at this point in his career. I'm hanging on to Burke. He's a focused player and will be an asset as a playmaker and a shooter.

If we were to send Trey and Hayward to Boston, I'd want Smart in return. But I like you general idea.

Ya I am afraid if the Celtics trade Rondo they would want more then Hayward. I don't think Boston would do it with Smart.
But I agree we should get more then just Parsons.

Exum (i know, as seen in video clips) has shown much better decision-making from the top of the key than Alec ever has (while being several years less experienced). Locke has pointed out numerous times that alec is only successful from the elbow in, because there he doesn't have to read the defense from both sides. Dante has shown much better vision and awareness, as is about as fast a 6'6'' guy could be (he might even be quicker than alec, who is also extremely quick off the first step).

Alec is a pure scorer, who can finish with contact, streak to the rim, break guys down in isolation, and live at the free throw line.

Dante, like Alec, can beat his man in isolation, but the biggest difference is he has shown the ability to distribute off of that penetration, not just blindly crash to the rim.

I for one, actually see them co-existing beautifully (at 1 and 2), as we would have surefire guys on both sides of the court that can beat their man off the bounce and get to the paint (which is seeming to become the #1 most important basis for NBA offense in today's game).

I'm really looking forward to it.
