Spencer Checketts picking up the slack on 1320kfan

Couldn't find any discussion about this on the board, so here it goes:

Apparently having Locke and Boler on the road more than half the season, thus not being able to do thier own show was too much for Scottie G., so now they have decided to fill in the gap by hiring on Spence Checketts to do the show. Funny thing about this is that he is David -mr real salt lake- Checketts son, supposed arch enemy of the Larry Miller group. (over blown in my opinion) And now he is working for KFan which is owned by the Millers. Irony is great.

The end result becomes this, that there will be much much less Boler and Locke, and much more Spencer and Scottie. I can hear the cheers from here with less Locke, and the crying from here too for less Boler.

My opinion: I think Locke is hands down the best radio personality in all of Utah, and Boler can be fun to listen too. Boo or cheer if you want, but that's how I feel. I'm sad to get less of them.

Edit notes: Allema Harrington is gone now (tv only) to be replaced by Tony Parks in the 1-3 show.

I think it will be good. I've always liked Spence and I think he'll be great. I know everyone harps on Locke, but for the most part I do enjoy his enthusiam. I've always thought it was stupid how people complain about media being too subjective (with regards to sports). While an objective opinion is fine, I find it more enjoyable when somebody is subjective (it just seems more normal). Maybe that's why I'm such a big Bill Simmons fan as well.

1320 KFAN is already placing him into that station mold that pops out commentators who think the show is about how important their lives are and not the subject matter. Who hosts a press conference for ego-pumping Q&A session for a small market AM radio nobody? KFAN would die if it weren't for its Utah Jazz preference status.

I'll take that self indulgent Michael Savage over any garbage 1320 puts out, minus Locke. Haters.

Taking the Savage Nation over Checketts County? That's harsh.

Just another reason to never listen to Sports Talk Radio. I wouldn't stuff "Spence" (who goes by Spence, really?) up my crap hole if I had room for a mighty elm. My least favorite radio personality of all time.

Nobody is worse than Dave Fox.
Maybe we could talk One Brow into taking over a show?
I know he's taking a break from here, maybe he is preparing.
I would love to have a host break every tweet, text, email, or call down line by line for the entire show debunking everything that could or could not be wrong with what was said/stated/implied/typed.

You do realize that the whole Q and A session was staged for laughs, right? The show is supposed to be entertaining. I mean, they had the Hot Rod impersonation going for heaven's sake.

I like how Spence sounds, and I am a bit of a fan of RSL, so bring it on.

Side note, isn't it funny how almost everyone that 1320 has came from other radio stations, primarily 1280? DJ and PK: 1280, Allema: 1280 (now gone from 1320 tho, but still in Larry Miller group) Scotty G: 1280, Bolerjack: you guessed it, 1280. I'm pretty sure some of the less known names are too, and now they steal away Spence from wherever he came from (don't know personally, but apparently he was working for another station.) So, are they coming over to be part of the Jazz, or is there a few benjamins involved here.

I'll lay it all out:

I like Booner, Locke, Ryan Hatch, Gordie Chiesa.

I think DJ and PK can be ok.

I think the opinions of Garrard, Monson, Boler, Bagley, Alema, Dave Fox, Hans Olson, etc. are worthless.

Don't know much about the new guy. I'll give him a shot. I care about his basketball knowledge and possibly connections for interviews. If he sucks, well my afternoon commute is only 4 minutes now so it doesn't matter really.

This. Absolutely this.

Why can't they just have a hot girl personality doing the show?
Every time I picture these sports analysts, I think Steve Buscemi

I always found Spence Checketts to be an overly defensive hack who rode daddy's coat-tails to a job and lashed out at anyone having a different opinion. Maybe he'll do well at 1320, but I won't know because I won't listen.

Wait... that's what you meant, right?
hehe.....

Looking at the other side of this, it looks like Locke, Boler, (and Allema) are kind of big timing the station saying that they are too high and mighty to do a lowly talk show, and should only be used as guests instead of regulars. That leaves the show with one decent but no name host in Scott, so they had a hole to fill. Looks like Scott and Spence have history together, so it made sense.

You do realize that most (if not all) of those guys started at 1320 before switching to 1280?

I actually was not aware of that. Strange that they would go to 1280, then to come back again. I guess I need to change my opinion of things in that area.

oops.
