The best we did was sign Rudy Gay and get black & white uniforms ?

Does anyone here actually want Ainge to take over for JZ? Other than you, I hope not.Sorry guys, I know I’m a Debbie downer on here. I just don’t see it. We coulda at least added danny ainge , but no. Trapped in a Zanick nightmare
If we want to be picky, we could moan about how we didn't get Batum, but got Gay instead. But who in their right mind would expect a player with a great role on a team that just beat us in the playoff to come to our side?Brought back the entire team which was the #1 seed in entire NBA last year. 52 wins in a 72-game season. Added Rudy Gay and Hassan Whiteside. Drafted Jared Butler. Not sure what else there was to do. This was literally the best case scenario for this off-season.
I believe we’ve significantly overrated Batum here, in part due to recency bias, but if we’re saying Batum > Gay then we’re significantly overrating Batum. If we want to be picky, we could moan about how we didn't get Batum, but got Gay instead. Or we could speculate about who the Jazz's number-one choice at backup center on a minimum contract was before he got offered a better contract. I'm choosing to guess Theiss, though his style of play is very different than we're used to at C.
Nah. I hope Gay thrives here, but if given a choice, I'd have gone with Batum. I'll gladly hope to be proven wrong, however.I believe we’ve significantly overrated Batum here, in part due to recency bias, but if we’re saying Batum > Gay then we’re significantly overrating Batum.
I saw this on the Utah Jazz Twitter, and then below it one of Udoka. They looked like they had different trajectories this summer.
Great post. Couldn't agree more. After reflecting on it, I’ve gone from being underwhelmed with our offseason to being pretty excited.
The playoff loss to the Clippers still stings like a ************, but if we take our fan glasses off and look at why we lost that series, I believe a few subtle tweaks gets the job done as opposed to a couple of wholesale changes.
I think having Rudy Gay as opposed to Niang, especially in the postseason will reap positive results for the Jazz. I’m also extremely hopeful that should we get unlucky with Conley or Mitchell’s health again come playoff time, the Jazz are more insulated at Guard with the addition of Jared Butler and the continued growth of Forrest- who had an amazing summer and looks like he might develop into a solid rotation piece.
As frustrated as we are, the reality is that it takes teams with younger stars a few disappointing playoff runs before they break through. Giannis and the Bucks had a similar run of disappointment in the playoffs prior to breaking through. I really like the idea of keeping most the pieces in place alongside our 2 foundational pieces in Mitchell and Gobert. By keeping the core roster in place, we’re gonna find out if DM and Gobert are good enough to get us there, and if the answer ends up being no, even if it’s not the answer we were hoping for, at least our FO will have a definitive answer.
Gay is also probably better than Batum. If we want to be picky, we could moan about how we didn't get Batum, but got Gay instead. But who in their right mind would expect a player with a great role on a team that just beat us in the playoff to come to our side?

I also think Gay is better than Batum in a vacuum, but I think a Batum addition for the Jazz would have been better from the standpoint that Batum probably helps the Jazz more when opponents go small and had the Jazz been able to sign him, it’s a double whammy because we would have weakened the Clippers in the process. That being said, Gay can still help us advance in the playoffs.Gay is also probably better than Batum.
