The Al Jefferson hate

Ok, a bunch of people on here (jazzfanz) have a real hate for Al Jefferson, and since I happen to like Big Al, those same people hate me too.
Hey, it's what I do.

So here is why I like Al:

1. I understand that we were all spoiled totally rotten by having Karl Malone for so many years. There is a reason why he is one of the all time greats. He worked harder than anyone. He always played hard, never took a night off. He produced. He did it all, he scored, rebounded, passed well, played great defense, ect.

Al Jefferson is not Karl Malone and never will be. I can live with that. I certainly wish Al was better, but he isn't, so I accept who he is.

And who is he? He is our leading scorer and our best player in the post.
Could his defense be better? Sure, but I also know that he is not quick with latteral movement.
I think Al plays hard and cares about the Jazz team.
His passing has been improving.

We could compare him to another Jazz pf: Carlos Boozer. Boozer took parts of the season off, and he was all about himself. He often stood still on defense and gave zero effort. He was also undersized.
He did have some big games for the jazz, especially in the Houston series's.
But I think most of us were not too sad when he bolted.
And I know many fans in Chicago are not so high on him either.

Yeah. It's all about your love for Jefferson. People hate how you love too much! It has nothing to do with your immaturity, aggressiveness, blind homerism, impressive ability to annoy, or your general lack of insight on basketball matters...

And while I don't hate AJ in any way, I would like to see him gone. Yes he can score, but, he hurts the Jazz in every other way. He doesn't even score efficiently (he takes a ton of shots). He stalls the offense, kills the momentum of games, and his defense is so bad it spreads to others. Everyone plays tougher defense when AJ is not in. The game flows much better without him, and while nobody can replace his scoring at the moment, I'm not convinced he's a net positive for the team. And I'm not even taking the big picture into consideration. With that, it's a no-brainer.

I know everybody disagrees on this board but I think Al Jefferson>Paul Millsap>Carlos Boozer

I think he is the biggest reason for having a surprisingly better record than most thought this season.

tl;dr

yup.

I want the jazz to trade him somewhere down the line, many in the draft to address the pg or sf position because favors and Kanter are our future, and think they will develop quicker with Al gone after the season, but I do love me some Big Al!

I once watched a Jazz game and saw Boozer playing complete non-existant defense. He was just standing still watching everything happen around him.

So I actually sent a message to Locke and complained about it some. He responded with something like "Yeah, I saw it, and I've seen it a hundred times before, and it will likely never change. Sorry"

Many people dislike Al because either he or Kanter has gotta go within the next couple of years.

I like Al, he is a top 10 center (which is top 1/3 NBA) starting center.

I've ranted about this topic about a million times but siromar has roughly covered it for me. The only thing I want to add is that with all of the talk of Boozer and Millsap being undersized, Al Jefferson seems to be Teflon John about that label for himself. He is undersized for a C (not egregioiusly so) and too slow to play PF.

Again he is a nice guy personnaly.

But his defense aint cutting it especially at center.
his offense does offset it. but come playoff time his offense will be gone because teams have up to 7 games to prepare adjust. if i want all offense no defense i would like bozzer back please.

I disliked Bozzer and dislike Jeffy just as much for their lack if defensive effort. Offense can come and go ala Millsap but D and HUSTLE is not something that can not happen. When Jeffys shot doesn't fall he is bad on BOTH ends. Kanter/Favors at least give effort and D consistently.

Is he what I want? No, but I can deal with him until we get something for him!

No I dislike jefferson as a player, for his lack of defensive effort but of the court he is a nice guy.
bozzer on the other hand I dislike on and off the court.
so kinda difefrent but okay. i'm not hanging out with either of them so i only care about on the court stuff

Is this a relationship board? I mean we all know they hang out at best buy but really?

I don't hate Al Jefferson, but like 95% of all NBA players, I think he's DRASTICALLY overpaid for what he accomplishes. He should be making about 5 million a year, not 15 million. In fact, he should be making about 3 million max. He's basically one demensional on offensive, and a liability on defense.

Al is a better defender than Boozer - the closest thing to Boozer defense was the occasional stripped ball in the paint. Though I think Al could be a much better defender - he's athletic enough and is large enough. I think a lot of people look at Amare the same way - they don't understand how such an athletic guy isn't a better defender.
