Realistically all politicians care about is getting re-elected and holding onto or increasing their personal power and wealth. You could fit all the politicians in the country who truly care about their constituency, beyond maintaining their vote, in the backseat of a Corolla.
 
I know a woman who is part of the city council where I live. She is a politician. She cares about the community. Volunteers for damn near everything. Supports local businesses.
She just got her first piece of legislation passed (it was centered on helping the homeless and helping with addiction) like a week ago. She is passionate, caring, selfless, empathetic, and extremely hard working.


I don't like how so many civilians in our society are so quick to just hate any and all forms of government and politicians and think they are all simply evil power hungry scumbags.
In fact I think that our society thinking that way and constantly vocalizing those thoughts will only help to create the exact type of politicians and government that everyone is bitching about.

Agreed. I think most of us that are pretty jaded in this respect are referring more to politicians on the national stage, senator, congressman, governor, president, etc. I think a lot of local politicians particularly on city councils, truly do care about their people, mainly because they live there and interact with them frequently. As opposed to say, senators that change districts to ensure they win the vote regardless of where they actually reside.
 
great news! I don’t agree with everything Biden does. And I sure wish he were younger. But I gotta think that most Americans don’t want to trade this for the chaos candidate whose sole focus is on revenge upon his perceived political enemies. Why would anyone want a return of the chaos, cruelty, and incompetence that we saw on full display in 2020? His solution for Covid was to stick a flashlight up your *** and inject disinfectant.

Ya gotta give Biden and his policies credit here. If you’d blame him for a bad economy now then ya gotta give him credit for the great economy we have. I for one just can’t afford to vote for Trump. My 401k and other investments are just too important to turn over to a reality tv president.

Fastest growing economy in the world. There just might be something with Bideneconomics folks! I’m definitely not tired from all of this winning!

Good stuff. I'm doing just as good or better financially now than I was 5 or 6 years ago. Making quite a bit more per hour/year and my 401k is doing really really well

So this bill was mostly about expanding the child tax credit and expanding tax breaks for big business? (That's what I heard on KSL)

Being both the ultimate hero and the ultimate victim is a tough shield to crack, an impenetrable tough armored cocoon where his followers are concerned. He certainly knew what he was doing in knowing how to take the country by storm. I wonder if some kind of critical mass can be reached regarding his insane social post rants? They really are going right off the charts. Will I wake up some day and discover that the country is so exhausted by his nonsense, that overnight people begin to wake from their stupor, and more and more see insanity rather than salvation?

Yesterday was an interesting day to survey the social landscape. The information silos the curation algorithms construct are seldom as obvious as they were yesterday. For those who resonate with anti-Trump content, this Quinnipiac poll was all they heard. For those who resonate with pro-Trump content, it was news of the Morning Consult / Bloomberg poll that filled their feed. Both sides were stoked and neither side knew why the opposition was happy because each only had half of the news.

If you made it through yesterday without knowledge of either poll then congratulations, you are living life correctly. If you knew about both polls, then you spend a lot of time online but at least you are taking in a balanced diet of information. If you only knew of the polling showing Biden beating Trump in a head-to-head, or if you only knew of the polling showing the opposite, that should set off information bubble alarm bells warning that you are not nearly as informed as you think you are.

Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) assigned Trump homework after the former president described the bipartisan border security bill as "betrayal of America."

Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) is calling on Donald Trump to not be “ignorant” after the former president ripped a bipartisan border security bill being negotiated in the Senate.

Cassidy, in an interview with CNN’s Manu Raju, questioned if Trump has access to the bill.

“Doesn’t seem that way,” Raju replied.

“It hasn’t been released, how does he know it’s a betrayal if he hasn’t read it?” Cassidy said, then offered the ex-president some free advice.

“I mean, don’t be ignorant,” he said. “Read the bill.”

Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.), when asked about Trump’s characterization, said it’s “certainly not a betrayal.”

“We’ve got to be able to deal with issues in law. That’s how we actually deal with things in America,” said Lankford, the lead GOP negotiator.

I know you want to believe the Democrat-controlled Senate cannot craft a bill because of Republicans and/or Trump even though it makes zero sense due to the Senate not needing any Republicans to create or pass a bill in the Senate. The real reason the Senate is having such a problem crafting a bill is because the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and the Congressional Progressive Caucus, the membership of both groups being 100% Democrat, have both been fighting against it.

Head of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Nanette Barragan (D-California) said “Everything that I’ve heard that’s in this bill is going to set immigration reform — real comprehensive immigration reform — back 10 or 15 years”

Head of the Congressional Progressive Caucus Pramila Jayapal (D-Washington) said “The things that are in the bill that were negotiated are things that are Trumpian kind of policies that have never worked to actually address the issues that we have. So I’m disappointed, frankly, that the president, the White House and some other Democrats are giving in”.

The problem is the Democrats can’t get enough Democrats to support a bill. After watching the extreme members hold their own party hostage in removing Kevin McCarthy, for 2024 and this border bill the Democrats have said “hold my beer”.

If you dont have access to it (I dont believe you do) then you wouldn't know of its existence. It could exist without being passed or voted on yet. Meaning that congress could read it but trump and you and I couldn't.
Trump sure thinks it exists.

Trump, in a Nevada speech Saturday, said there was “zero chance” he’d support what he described as “this horrible open borders betrayal of America.”

“It’s not gonna happen. And I’ll fight it all the way. I noticed a lot of the senators are trying to say, respectfully, they’re blaming it on me. I say, that’s OK, please blame it on me. Please,” he said of efforts to tank the bill.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer says there isn't a bill yet. As of last night he said they were getting close but there were a few points on which they still haven't come to agreement on. If anyone would know, it would be Chuck Schumer. As for Trump's speech, I don't find it the least bit surprising that he is trying to take credit for a thing he didn't do.
