The Greatest Jazz Game Ever Played

On the 15 year anniversary of the Greatest Game in Jazz History, I remember and shed a tear everytime I see Bryon Russell with the dunk at the buzzer. After the Stockton 3, his steal of Jordan, "The Pass" to Malone, Karl's clutch FT's, Bryon's dunk was a great capper. No crowd in NBA history has been so loud, OKC couldn't touch it. I truly believed at that moment we were going to get the ring. I also love the bearhug Karl gave Jerry.

Feel free to comment or refute this game as the greatest ever if you wish...

That was a pretty great game, but I don't think you can forget about the game this year against the Suns to send us to the playoffs. I'd say it's a toss up.

If we're talking this year, I'll say the Dallas game. That was pretty epic for this year. After we won I knew we would make the playoffs.

That dude playing point guard was pretty good.

No disagreement from me. The loudest moments ever at the Delta Center/Energy Solutions Arena as well as the greatest win in Jazz history.

Ah, the good old days of Jazz basketball. No one took over games quite like John. It wasn't flashy. When he put the jazz on his back it wasn't his scoring, passing, or defense, but everything combined. I've never seen anyone take over a game like Stockton did.

I actually got choked up while watching that video. I long for those days.

Hopefully the 4 and a new point guard can get us there in the next few years.

Ahhhh. I long for the days when we had guards that could shoot. It's amazing how good our offense looks when guys aren't bricking wide open jumpers from the top of the key and 3 pointers.

Russell's dunk is one of the most overlooked moments in Jazz history. I know it didn't mean anything at all determining the outcome of the game, but that moment was the loudest our arena has ever been. Watching Perkins' slam this week reminded me of it:

And to answer the question this thread this is definitely the greatest Jazz game of all time.

So..... Where does the Houston game that same year stand. Maybe it's not the most exiting game but it's certainly the most important, and Stockton took over that game as well.

Of course it's incredible and had the best Jazz play of all time. I just didn't have the fear that game that I did in Game 4 against the Bulls. We handled the Rockets pretty easily at home and with Game 7 at home as a fall back it just didn't seem as urgent. Dropping Game 4 and going down 3-1 would've been a nail in the coffin, but somehow Stockton guts it out and we take it. Not to mention it's just cooler to have these great moments occur at home.

Game 6 vs. Houston was an incredible comeback with the most memorable shot in Jazz history - but this game was just bigger and better in nearly every facet. NBA Finals, Stockton upstaging Jordan in the final minutes, Utah down 4 w/2 min left and scoring the final 9 points against a 69-win Bulls team to mark the only time ever Jordan and the Bulls were tied 2-2 after 4 games in the NBA Finals

As dipship mentioned, the fact that it was at home further enhances the moment in Jazz history (the other two times Utah clinched berths to the Finals came on the road). You had Larry Miller showing up at the game in the final minute (it was a Sunday evening game) and Jim Gray interviewing LHM in the tunnel of the Delta Center right as Karl Malone was preparing to shoot huge FT's, and Malone made the FT's which at the time seemingly redeemed himself for the Game 1 misses, the embrace between Jerry and Karl, the crowd roaring 10 minutes after the final buzzer, everything about that night was magical.

And here on Russell's dunk, the crowd is so loud you can't even hear Marv Albert:

I've never heard a crowd roar like that, and after this game virtually every Jazz fan felt like Utah would win the championship - not because they were overconfident or underestimated the greatness of Jordan - but because the Jazz just felt like a team of destiny. Then Jordan had to ruin everything.

Best games in the past few seasons are:
1. Cavs sundiata game winner
2. Thunder 140-139 game
3. Dallas 3 OT
I would also add the Laker game where Hayward went toe to toe with Kobe in his rookie season.

Nothing beats Kobe holding up both hands as if they let him down and Hayward having nothing to do with it. Priceless!
