The Interview

How about this. North Korea was able to shut it down. I hate to say this, but the terrorists did win. Kim must be rolling on the floor laughing his *** off how easy is to bully US businesses of shutting down free speech. All it takes is a hack and several badly written vague threats on pastebin.

Sad. They should digitally release it on Dec. 25th

I'd pay to watch it just to show my support. (plus it looks funny enough)

I am still not convinced this isn't some giant marketing campaign. I've seen James Franco and Seth Rogan on a bunch of youtube videos advertising showing a large marketing campaign and the early reviews that came for this movie have been mostly negative.

Don't think that is the case. That is a lot of money to lose out on by not having the major theater chains not show the movie. I doubt negative reviews affect comedy movies that much, especially ones with Seth Rogen, who has a loyal fan base who would probably watch this movie even if it got 0 stars from every movie critic on the planet.

Of course it's not the case.

Eh I meant like maybe get released later or something or maybe digit sales or something else. :/ This is generating a lot of buzz, it even posted on a Utah Jazz forum.... It a risky move but I could see it happen. It not out of the realm of possibility imo. I am just open to the idea.

Was the hack also part of this plan? Because that alone is expected to cost them more than the entire film division's annual revenue. You remember the 2011 Sony hack? That cost them up to $200m. And it paled in comparison to this one. You're overusing that part of the brain that enjoys the possibility of a conspiracy.

Yeah, not to mention all the personal info that has been released, internal emails, etc. that affect not just Sony but many people who work for them directly and indirectly. This is a huge blow to sony. This is not a marketing campaign. Keep in mind U.S. intelligence agencies are directly blaming the PRNK.

If it was a publicity stunt this is the most over the top extraordinary publicity campaign ever undertaken.

And they're getting sued by their employees. And the NSA would have to be in on it. All of this to make a couple of bucks on a mid-tier movie.

I would also pay to watch it just to show my support, even though it does not look particularly funny to me.

Monsegur said there's also a chance the hack could have originated from China.

"I mean, it's possible," he said. "It might be a North Korean inside China."

That quote would be my guess. And probably not even a North Korean in China. Just some Chinese guys. You can outsource hacking, just like I could go to Dubai and hire a couple of Al Qaeda straight out of hotels there if I had enough money and a job they would agree to take on. If it was North Korea, I bet somebody else did their leg work.

This site is always interesting to look at Re: hacking:

lol at those people who thought this was easy.... I bet hackers' life were in danger, if they did not succeed it. Kim Jung-un probably threatened not only the hackers but also their family as well.

North korea is now offering help to find the hackers. NK is straight up toying with USA.

So a hacker says that NK doesn't have the capabilities to pull off the hack (totally wrong btw), and you use that as a vindication of your statement about it being a marketing ploy? Why not try to build a worldview based on reason and the best available evidence than waste time trying to find anyone or anything that validates an uninformed statement you happened to make (per your admission, you did not even know about the hack)? It is okay to be wrong, you know.

How are they toying us?

Do you think that anyone from our governmwnt thinks that NK will help us? Does anyone in this country not believe that NK's government wasn't behind this?

And why is this attack on us? They didn't hack our government. They hacked a business. Maybe Sony should take responsibility and upgrade their security? I thought the private sector was so much better than the public sector?

If I start a business and go cheap on security and am hacked, is America suddenly under attack? Nope. My business is. But maybe I should stop wasting money on myself and actually invest in security? For me, it's about Sony taking responsibility.

I personally consider threats to bomb theaters showing the movie as something that concerns all of us. But to each his own.
