What's new

The Jazz Must Select Hansen Yang at 21

I'd definitely be onboard with getting this guy at 21. I'd feel this way regardless of the trades I'm hoping we make, but I'm now leaning in the direction of trading Kessler, so there's additional need for a center in my mind.

Falling? You mean rising. I fear he might rise out of our range if he's at 22 already.
If it's Ace who falls to 5th, I'm on board with trading down for Nets #8 & #19 or even package with #21 to Wizards for #6 & #18 if they really want Ace. Both #18 & #19 will give us a better chance at landing Yang.

I'd just take Ace and cross my fingers Yang is there. I doubt Utah is considering him given there will be safer perimeter options available at 21, but fingers crossed.

Regarding concerns over this kid’s athleticism, he’s almost exactly three years younger than Edey, so if we were to draft him he’d have a two year head start on improving his body fat/athleticism as compared to Edey. That means something.

Also, his skill, like Cy size, is extremely high level imo. Totally reminds me of the elder Sabonis in the late 90’s.

I can't freaking believe people are serious about this guy. A total non-shooter with lead feet who can only score from the left block (even in China, where he's facing 6'8'' guys) and plays some of the worst pick and roll defense I've ever seen from a big, on any level. SMH

Oh, but he's supposed to be this "hub"? I mean every single center will just drop against Yang all day long in the NBA, just like they do against Kessler. He won't have his CBA passing lanes because teams will figure him out within the first five minutes, and we all know he flat out refuses to shoot (which is understandable because he can't hit anything).

What a joke.

Another point to make is Ryan trying so hard to put Utah on the map in the sports world ever since he took over. What's a better way to accelerate that process by getting the Chinese market behind us. Like what Yao did for Houston. He needs to be good. Of course. But the upside is tremendous.

No doubt in my mind Yang becomes a good shooter down the line.

The Yang hype is actually bizarre, I don't think he can play at all. Centers who require massive usage to make up for their defense but have no functional ball handling are useless. You better be able to dribble like Jokic if you're a much worse defender than Jokic.
