I thought about that and it makes a ton of sense. I LOVE both players, but they fit better in the other location. I think it's fair as a straight exchange.

I think so... Eason has restricted rights so there is some benefit there. I think Ellis can still be extended during the season with the average NBA salary limit thingy.

I would guess league opinion is that Eason>Ellis though. Eason and Murray isn't a bad start to the Kings rebuild that is surely coming.

You're probably right about Eason's value being great. It's hard to evaluate them now because they're analytics gods, but in limited minutes. They're also both in situations where they could see less minutes than they did last season.

I think HOU needs to make a big play. Eason for Ellis doesn't seem like a big play, but it could be for their future and I could see Ellis playing 30 MPG for them in the playoffs. It rebalances their roster well. But idk if a slight upgrade over Reed/Aaron Holiday really does much for them. They have some really good talent on their squad, but also some glaring weaknesses. They need playmaking, shooting, and maybe even a true rim protector.

I also think Reed will be fine as a regular season minutes eater. Last night's matchup is a rough one for him to have to start the experiment with.

Idk. He has the biggest target on his back for any offensive player. When Lu Dort is taking you to school on an iso you probably can't defend.

It's really one of the weirdest cases of being a terrible defender I've seen. He's such a a great athlete when it comes to recovery, but he's soft as Charmin and can't move laterally. Just kind of ruins everything Houston is about defensively, but they really need his shooting on the court. I think they just end up going with Aaron Holiday at some point if Reed can't stay in front of anyone.

But maybe just an overreaction from facing an elite team.

The answer for Houston, IMO, would be to trade Sheppard while he still has value. Seems to have a lot of people high on him. Could they get Ayo from the Bulls for Sheppard?

Reed is fine for the regular season....pretty much anyone is.

But I'll also say that my personal bias is that on ball defense is highly overrated. So while the POA does look terrible I personally don't think it has the impact on the game that others do. It's still a concern though. Maybe more concerning for me as a big Reed stan is his offense. His handle is still really bad and he can't get anywhere on the court. His ability to attack the basket, or lack thereof, is the thing I did not consider enough in my draft eval on him. If anyone wondered why I was so adamant about FT's and rim attempts this draft cycle, cases like Reed are a reason why. Gotta learn from mistakes.

I think he's still going to be a good NBA player, but not true lead ball handler. Looking back, TJ McConnel with a sniper was a faulty comparison because TJ has the ball on a string (and is physically much stronger) while Reed can barely dribble against pressure.

Keon would be a pretty tremendous addition the more I think of it.

Yeah... things take time. Not sure if Ime is the patient type though. I think when playoffs come around he can't be out there if things don't turn. He'll be better than he was last night though during the year and will be an okay rotation piece.

I think the bloom is off the rose a bit there for sure. He'd still have value in a trade but they maybe should have done a deal last summer.
