The Non-Jazz NBA Thread in the Jazz Section

I still dont get what the spurs are doing. They have been my second team since David Robinson, Avery Johnson, Sean Elliott and Vinny Del Negro ruled the courts. But this rendition is baffeling.

Cam Thomas signed his QO. Gets paid just 6M next season and becomes UFA next summer.
Got one full year to learn his Chinese. Serious though. He's a baller but his skillset is tailored made for overseas. No NBA team is gonna build its entire offense around his iso game.

Two former lottery picks Cam Reddish and Trey Lyles signed overseas contracts today.
Ugh, what ****** franchises drafted them in the lottery? What a huge blunder, especially if a generational talent was left on the table. I bet they will never live it down.

Hey, he's not going to get those fat bonuses by cutting prices. He's got to wring as much as possible from every TV contract to keep the salaries going up up up! You mean a lot of Americans can't afford this stuff? **** them, they all have YouTube. Watch YouTube and buy a ****ing jersey, we only want rich and famous people at the games anyway, better for marketing to sell more jerseys to the YouTube fans!

Frankly it's just going to get worse and worse until people actually do stop watching and spending their money with the league. But hey, people have to be entertained, what are they suddenly going to start, like, reading or some such stupid ****? **** that! We need dopamine NOW NOW NOW NOW....uh, what was I saying? **** it, time to watch YouTube!

LOL .. Rachel is getting her NBA credentials stripped for this.

Pretty sure that’s not what Silver meant to convey.

Nope, no twisting of the words here. Silver meant it. And honestly it can’t be seen as too much of a surprise. There are examples across all forms of media where instead of going for high quality, they go for short form/viral moments. The most popular music, TV shows, and movies aren’t necessarily the best and are usually some kind of slop. The NBA is following suit. They want the viral moments/drama etc. What they do not care about is the day to product of actually watching the games or the quality of basketball being played.

I think you need both quality and hype to really penetrate the markets the NBA are interested in. You reach a hell of a lot of people by producing Marvel-movies, but by also producing The Wire, you get the core group of fans who stick around, just waiting to catch that bit of magic again. In English what I am trying to say is that the league IMO is best served by producing both a ******** of highlights and competetive games between teams playing high quality basketball.
