Sonny Rollins (I could have also picked Miles, or Coltrane, or Mingus, or Bird, or... Well, a bunch. But Sonny, in my mind, is the best instrumentalist. Not the best writer, or the best band leader, but he never EVER stopped working on his craft, not until he literally didn't have enough breath in his body.)
