Jimmy Carter

very sad
Jimmy Carter makes me wish there was a heaven, because he deserves it.

A great American, never stopped serving. Vale Jimmy Carter.
Imagine someone who became President of the United States with the goal of serving the United States and ALL of its people. Just like Stockton's assist record, it just can't happen today.

The last honest, decent man to serve as President too.

Only president to spend time inside a nuclear reactor. It was only 89 seconds, but...

From Wikipedia:

On December 12, 1952, an accident with the experimental NRX reactor at Atomic Energy of Canada's Chalk River Laboratories caused a partial meltdown, resulting in millions of liters of radioactive water flooding the reactor building's basement. This left the reactor's core ruined.. Carter was ordered to Chalk River to lead a U.S. maintenance crew that joined other American and Canadian service personnel to assist in the shutdown of the reactor. The painstaking process required each team member to don protective gear and be lowered individually into the reactor for 90 seconds at a time, limiting their exposure to radioactivity while they disassembled the crippled reactor. When Carter was lowered in, his job was simply to turn a single screw. During and after his presidency, Carter said that his experience at Chalk River had shaped his views on atomic energy and led him to cease the development of a neutron bomb.

There are a couple of cool recent Jimmy Carter documentaries out. I watched them both on Delta flights and they're quite good. Best man of our times without a doubt in my opinion.

I don't disagree with this statement. He was a good man. He was an awful President and booting him from office marked morning in America, but as a human being he gets the highest of marks. It is enough to make one think maybe our system wasn't set up to be run by good men.

Carter, like Biden, was guilty of being President when the tide was out.

The worst political decisions Americans have made have been based on blaming the current administration on the status of the tides.

Presidents don't control the tide or inflation. Only the stupidest of stupid people believe otherwise, so like 52% of the U.S..

I don’t agree with that at all. Biden is a moron. Even when his brain wasn’t addled by old age, he was still a moron. Obama’s Sec Def famously said Biden had been "wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue over the past four decades."

Carter was not a moron. Carter was intellectually brilliant. Carter’s problem is that he couldn’t lead people. Contrary to your opinion of Presidents not being able to address inflation, Carter did address 70’s stagflation. It was solved by Fed Chairman Paul Volker who abandoned Keynesianism by jacking interest rates to the sky to tighten the money supply.

Ronald Regan gets the credit for ending the era of stagflation, but it was Carter who recognized the wisdom of Volker’s different approach and put him in the position to solve the problem. Carter installed Volker, not Regan. Carter intellectually knew what to do but he was not capable of galvanizing a nation out of malaise. Regan did have the charisma and command to lead a nation, so he gets the credit for having done so.

Morning in America? More like evening in America.
